“If you’re going to do this as a profession, build your follower base and make sure that your content is updated regularly.” – Emily
Known as one of the most popular beauty bloggers in Malaysia, Emily has over 14,000 followers on Instagram! When she started off, she only had a handful of followers but she stood firm to her principles and never gave up.
Emily started blogging in college but when she moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 2006, this ‘hobby’ went a different direction.
Trial and error
“I was already a little interested in beauty, and looking through my own pictures back then, I’d notice certain things about my makeup that I wasn’t satisfied about. That’s when I started experimenting and learning more about makeup. In the end, the blog went that direction too,” she explains.
“If you’re going to do this as a profession, build your follower base and make sure that your content is updated regularly. To engage your audience better, you can post questions as people enjoy giving opinions; hold polls to find out what attracts your followers the most and get on Snapchat. Readers are eager to know what you’re up to and after a certain time, you’ll become more relatable,” says Emily.
