Jeryl Lee has always been thankful and appreciative for the support that she has received from her SuperFEMALE: her mother. At the same time, she acknowledges that she wouldn’t have been able to come this far had she not put in the hard work to achieve her career goals.
Jeryl, who’s of Pakistani descent, was adopted since she was born. According to a report in The Star, her biological mum couldn’t afford to raise her even before she was born and had approached a woman by the name of Ivy Liew, who is now Jeryl’s adoptive mother.
Jeryl’s first singing experience happened when she was eight. “My mother asked me to sing on stage at her friend’s event and I did quite well that she decided to enrol me in singing classes to hone my talent,” she recalls.
When she was 12, Jeryl joined a Taiwanese Singing Competition – Chinese Million Stars, and at the age of 14, she defeated 54 contestants from around the world after winning the Watercube Singing Contest for Overseas Chinese Teenagers in Beijing, China. At 16, Jeryl emerged as one of the six finalists in Sing! China, a talent contest that was held at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing. Today, the 19-year-old star, who has nearly 200,000 Instagram followers, continues to touch the hearts of many through her performances.
“When I first started to manage my own social media account, there were haters who said a lot of negative things. But with the support from everyone around me, I told myself to not have any hard feelings but continue to work hard,” says Jeryl. The exotic beauty, who plans to develop her own fashion brand in the near future, is currently pursuing a fashion design course while also attending shoots for a movie that she’ll be appearing in at the end of this year.
