I love books.
Reading a good book is one of my great pleasures in life, and just as enjoyable is the act of picking out my next good read from a bookstore! I’ve been doing this since I was a child, and so I’ve seen how the prices of books – no thanks in part to inflation and our weakening currency – have soared over the years, to the point of starting to feel like an actual indulgent luxury if you’re on a tight budget.
But books shouldn’t be an indulgence, and I refuse to give them up! So I did some hunting around and did you know there are plenty of other ways to get your hands on books for less? Here are my favourite spots.
Is it any surprise that the people who bring you the yearly much-anticipated Big Bad Wolf book sale would also run the most delightful bookstores where you can score good reads at up to 80% less than regular retail price? They’re expanding to even more locations, most recently launching the breathtaking “book tunnel” concept in Sunsuria Forum. But how do they get their prices so cheap? By selling what are known as ‘remaindered‘ books, brand-new books that have been overprinted by publishers. As such, the books at BookXcess tend to be large, newer premium paperbacks and hardbacks, but the stock refreshes fairly frequently.
