The ‘90s vibe has reached new heights (literally) with this cute comeback.

Popularised by English pop girl group, the Spice Girls, who could ever forget those iconic sky-high sneakers that took centre stage at concerts, music videos, magazine front covers and posters? If as a kid you always dreamt about slipping your tiny toes into the towering trainers but didn’t have the chance, 2017 is the year to make that childhood wish come true. Cos among other ‘90s trends that are now stylish again (think chokers, dungarees and baby T-shirts under cami slips), platform shoes are back with a bang! Spotted on the runways of New York and Paris Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2017, here are a few designers whose reinterpretations of the chunky footwear are what we really, really want!

The all-American brand embraced a rebellious streak in the form of studs, spikes, fringes that weren’t short of a rugged attitude.

Marc Jacobs

Exaggerated Mary Jane pumps and knee-high boots dipped in both bright, candy-coloured shades and sparkly, metallic hues adorned leggy pins.

The resort-ready models sauntered the catwalk in strappy criss-cross sandals with contrasting platforms.

Proenza Schouler

Mostly monochromatic, these slightly sporty versions ooze normcore luxe with a minimalistic graphic appeal.

Now go forth and channel your inner Spice!
