It’s a sad news to wake up to as one of our all-time favourite fashion designer, Kate Spade, who’s known for creating some of the most lovable accessories, clothes, and handbags, was found dead on June 6. The New York Police Department ruled her death as suicide as she was found hanging in her Park Avenue apartment. She was 55.

Kate Spade New York was the kind of brand that brings us to a happy place. When you immerse yourself in the world of Kate Spade, everything seems cheery and colourful. It never fails to put a smile on our faces everytime we walk into the store and especially when we look at the handbags. Kate was a visionary designer who built her brand based on the idea of creating the perfect handbag for every woman whilst promoting and exercising female empowerment.

The founder and former co-owner of her namesake brand Kate Spade New York have over 140 retail shops in the U.S and about 175 around the world, including Malaysia. She launched her contemporary designer brand back in January 1993 and has built a well-known brand that we all love.

After building her empire for 13 years, she walked away from her brand and sold it to the Neiman Marcus Group before the brand got acquired by Coach, Inc in 2017. Since then she has been managing her accessories label, Frances Valentine.

According to CNN, the designer had hung herself with a scarf in her bedroom and left a suicide note on the scene. The content of the note is undisclosed. She was discovered by the housekeeper who alerted 911. A report stated that her husband and business partner was in the house at the time. Meanwhile, her daughter’s whereabouts were unknown by sources.
