Join FEMALE’s Fashion Writer, Nadia on her journey as the winner of Beauty Bound Asia to the most anticipated music festival of the year!
From sending my entry video for SK-II Beauty Bound Asia (Season 2) to flying off to Okinawa, Japan. I never thought I’d be on this 22-hour flight on my way to California, U.S.A.
I entered Beauty Bound Asia in the first place simply because I was passionate about creating videos, but I didn’t actually imagine I’d represent Malaysia in Japan AND announced as ‘Asia’s Next Top Beauty Creator’ by Chiara herself (a total fan-girl moment for me!).
So proud of the winner of #beautybound who’s now Asia’s Next Top Beauty Creator from Malaysia! I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to be the global judge of Beauty Bound Season II by @skii. I’ve been making YouTube videos for the last two years and each year, I never missed on posting a Coachella inspired video. Thanks to SK-II, this year I get to share with you what I ACTUALLY wore to the festival itself – from makeup, hair and outfits!
As a first timer at Coachella, what I learnt was, most people attend the festival for the music and to see their favourite artists perform. Am I the only one who forgot it was about the music and not just the fashion? I learnt pretty quickly though about the lineups and artists, the massive crowd (everywhere!), the sand storm and getting stuck in traffic because everyone is driving to the same place.
Other than that, I had the best time seeing some of my favourite artists (whom I didn’t even know were going to perform) including Lady Gaga, Lorde, and Tove Lo. I also found out that I really enjoy DJ Snake and Capital City!
#1 My hair transformation
For the longest time, I’ve always had hair till my waist. I probably cut it to shoulder length once and didn’t like it. But turning 2017 this year following the whole ‘new resolution’ motto, chopping my hair was one of them. So, I did. A week before Coachella, I chopped about 13 inches (at least!) of my hair, bleached it and dyed it pastel pink. BEST decision I’ve ever made!
#2 Makeup looks
Day 1: As usual, I went through a few makeup looks on YouTube and Pinterest to get some inspiration. I ended up with this first look which I was very happy with!
I did a winged out smokey eye with peach and brown tones on my lids, defined contour and dark berry lips. Not to forget, dots of silver and gold glitter under my eyes.
Day 2: After experiencing all of the insanity of Coachella from the first day, I found out that the sky is the limit when it comes to dressing up (believe me, I saw some VERY interesting looks. Less is more for sure!)
I started with silver eyeshadow all over the lid and used my Urban Decay electric palette as my inspiration – using the shade ‘Slowburn’ under my eye and ‘Jilted’ on the crease. I also drew on a thick black liner and went with pinky-nude lips. Again, more glitter around my brows and on the centre of my lips.
Day 3: The final day to paint your face as you want without anyone judging you.
I tapped into my inner unicorn and dipped myself in glitter! I used Colourpop’s eyeshadow in ‘Elixir’ all over my lids, gold glitter in the corner and side of my eye (AND lips), silver glitter under my brows and as a highlight!
#3 Outfit lookbook
One of my favourite experience at Coachella has to be the freedom of self-expression. As a fashion writer and YouTube creator, I am obsessed with how fashion and beauty can transform and determine how we feel. As much as Coachella is still centred around the boho style, you can get away with anything and simply have a good time.
These are a few looks I decided to go with! I only planned my first-day outfit and wished I had pre-planned the rest of them. But I think I still did alright!
Still inspired to create my own band cover…..just maybe not post it at 5am in the morning and waking up to realizing you spelled Coachella as CAOchella ? #mylife . . #thanksbro #deckedout #70s #whoops #still #coachilling #lol #music #festival #fashion #2017 #innermaverick #changedestiny #deserthauliday
I also got the chance to casually bump (I stalked them) into some of my favourite YouTube and Instagram influencers!
Here’s a video of my trip to L.A. and Coachella 2017! It was an experience I will never forget and felt extremely lucky to be a part of.
Cheers, Nadia XX
