If there’s one similarity we could find in both Acne Studios and Mulberry’s fashion pieces, it’s certainly the luxurious approach to each design. This is why when the teasers on both brand’s friendship collaboration were released, fans (and us, of course!) were excited to get a sneak peek of what’s heading to the stores.
Now, the collection has finally landed in stores and online, and they’re absolutely a perfect manifestation of the spirit of both brands. The collection of bags and small leather goods sees two houses marrying Swedish designs with British heritage, with key styles given a fresh twist in the limited-edition range such as the Musubi bag by Acne Studios and the Bayswater by Mulberry.

“This is a collection about friendship and our freedom as brands to do what we want to do. It is like a conversation between Acne Studios and Mulberry, one that is founded in mutual respect and a desire to make a great product,” says Jonny Johansson, creative director of Acne Studios.
Combining classic styles and signatures from the two houses, Mulberry’s celebrated Scotchgrain bags have been reimagined by the Acne Studios design team, with multiple leather buckle strap fastenings and oversized metal hardware. The bag comes in messenger and mini cross-body satchel styles with the collaboration logo on the reverse – the letters of Acne Studios creatively superimposed in the Mulberry tree emblem like leaves.
On the other hand, Acne Studios’ Musubi bag, with its signature origami knot, is combined with the Mulberry Bayswater, bringing together two of the houses’ most loved styles. The wide leather knot is laced through the Bayswater in either regular or micro sizes. Throughout, the detachable fabric straps come printed with the brands’ logos.
Undoubtedly one of the most unexpected collaborations this season, Jonny revealed how the collaboration came about and how the team worked on the collection.
“This is a collaboration that’s all about friendship. I’ve been friends with Thierry Andretta, the CEO of Mulberry, for many years. We’ve kept in touch for many years in many different ways, and one day the idea for this bag landed in my head. We’ve been having a lot of fun with bags recently at Acne Studios, and out Musubi bag is becoming popular. Collaborating with our friends at Mulberry seemed like a really good way to explore what we can do with bags further. We started with the Scotchguard bags that I think are so cool. We looked at how we could turn up the volume and amplify the design. We added multiple buckle straps and pumped up the size of the hardware, like the metal strap clasp.”
