30 Things We Learned From The Set Of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ In Singapore

As the trailer for Hollywood’s first all-Asian movie in 25 years breaks the Internet, we’ve got the exclusive scoop of all the behind-the-scenes secrets we uncovered during our Crazy Rich Asians set visit in Singapore last June.

Crazy Rich Asians might only be out this coming August but one thing we know for sure? It’s going to be a huge deal for Hollywood to finally have a movie with an all-Asian cast. As a long time fan of the novel with the same title by Kevin Kwan, words literally could not express how I felt that morning when I arrived at Chijmes in Singapore.

I, along with a group of other international media reporters, were shown the area where the film monitors were hidden, the tent where the cast would gather for breaks and the exact location of the chapel which would be used for the scene they were going to shoot that same day – the wedding ceremony of Araminta Lee and Colin Khoo.

We weren’t allowed to take pictures for obvious reasons, but I did manage to get these shots approved. #PicsOrItDidntHappen Am I right?

During my entire day at Chijmes, I got to speak to Jon M Chu (director), Nina Jacobson (producer), Mary E. Vogt (costume designer), Nelson Coates (Production designer), Henry Golding, Constance Wu, Nora Lum aka Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Amy J Cheng, Selena Tan and Fiona Xie. I also got to see Kina Grannis film her beautiful scene for the movie.

With that said, do bear in mind that what I’ll be revealing next might contain some spoilers if you haven’t read the books. So proceed with caution!
