“All I Want For Christmas Is You” was released 24 years ago on November 1, 1994, as the lead single for Mariah’s fourth studio album and first holiday album, Merry Christmas. It was written and produced by the singer herself alongside Walter Afanasieff, the producer behind popular Titanic theme song “My Heart Will Go On”.
In 2017, Mariah shared with Billboard in an interview that she was actually not enthused with the idea of releasing a Christmas record.
“I felt like it was a little bit too early in my career to be doing a Christmas album. And then — I decided to do it. The crazy thing about it is, every year it tends to increase in popularity,” said Mariah. “I’m very thankful that people seem to still have an attachment to it. It makes me feel good when people tell me that it’s part of their lives.”
The song reached its peak of being listed as No.6 on the Billboard Hot 100 a week ago and is currently sitting on the seventh spot.
Time to blast some Mariah Carey tunes now!
