The Ultimate Beauty Playground That Took Place At The Big Apple

Calling all makeup enthusiasts!

If your heart skips a beat and if you get knots in your stomach when you see everything that’s related to beauty – makeup, skincare, hair care or hair tools, then you’re definitely a beauty junkie like me (and you can go ahead and sit with us; sorry Regina!)

Beautycon Festival NYC

I had the opportunity to check out what all the hype was about at the most coveted festival in the beauty world, Beautycon, which have sold out arenas since they first launched. So I set sail for the Big Apple, New York city (spoiler alert: the festival was awesome!)

Dozens of beauty brands carefully curated their booths to represent their brand’s aesthetics and vibe to the attendees and some of them weren’t playing! Maybelline and M.A.C had the largest displays with people lining up to take a sneak peek or get their hands on their latest collection!  My favourite from M.A.C was the Fix + Goldlite setting spray, as the powder melts into the skin seamlessly and giving your skin that extra gleam.

While smaller brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills, Lime Crime and Shea Moisture have already made a name for themselves in the US, they’ve just started to break into the international scene and fans were lining up to try their cult products. I loved the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus line that is catered for curly lasses. It’s formulated without any sulfates, parabens, and silicones – all of which are a big no-no if you have curls.

Then came the fun part, the pink carpet; where beauty creators, social media personalities and  celebrities walked down and the fans (us) snapped away with our cameras. I would’ve never thought that I’d ever have the opportunity to meet Lucy Hale, Zendaya and Ally Brooke but I can now check it off my bucket list! Zendaya was glowing from afar with her highlights and natural lip hue on her gorgeous complexion. Ally Brooke rocked a neon matte pink lippie that has become the latest talk of the town recently.

Then came the panel discussion that included big names such as Bobbi Brown, Zendaya and Lucy Hale while also included internet stars that we have fallen in love with e.g. Eva Gutowski, Nikita Dragun and Jackie Aina who spoke about everything – from the benefits and disadvantages of social media to their favourite beauty routine steps and the challenges of having a career as a content creator. Here are some memorable one liners and tips that we took note of:

“Be clear of your goals and set your mind to achieve them. I was a kid who didn’t excel well in school yet I now own a billion dollar company!” – BOBBI BROWN

“Jesus had haters too! Stop pleasing everybody and start being yourself.” – JACKIE AINA

Eva Gutowski from MYLIFEASEVA got a lot of compliments about her skin and her tip to having perfect skin especially in summer is to use a body lotion with SPF as this helps to moisturise the skin and protect it from the sun at the same time! Then Charlotte Cho, founder of Soko Glam came on and shared her tips. Her recommendation especially when it comes to warmer months is to double cleanse as you’ll tend to produce more oils and sebum during this time and this is the most effective way to clean your skin without stripping it off its natural oils before you proceed with your normal skincare routine.
