Simple Makeup-free Ways To Get Your Skin Ready Before Zoom Meetings

Since the MCO started, there hasn’t been a day where makeup has touched my skin. I’ve completely abandoned it in my makeup bag and on my dressing table, allowed my skin to breathe and it feels great! That is, of course, until a Zoom meeting request comes in and I start asking myself if I should bust out the foundation and blushers again. While a part of me wanted to say yes as I love the process of getting dolled up, I decided to keep my makeup-free skin streak going with skincare products that’ll give me a Zoom-ready face. Read on to see my essentials that helped.

I’ve grown to love chemical exfoliants, especially during this period as it’s the perfect time to refine and clear my skin while keeping it protected. While there are many different acids to suit various skin types, I like the Kiehl’s Daily Refining Milk Peel Toner as it’s formulated with Lipo Hydroxy Acid (LHA) – a calmer and gentler exfoliant for my sensitive skin. As LHA’s penetrate lesser than the rest, this toner makes for a safe, every day peel for all skin types. Even so, it works just like other acids, breaking down dead skin cells to make way for new, smooth and bright skin which comes in handy when I need a radiance boost in the morning. Other than that, the toner also helps to nourish, soften and soothe my skin at the same time thanks to the almond milk and 23% emollients infused in the formula.

Eye patches

My eyes are usually puffy and tired-looking as soon as I wake up so whenever I have a meeting in the morning, I make sure to apply a couple of hydrogel patches to give me that wide-awake look. One I’ve been loving is the Pixi DetoxifEYE patches as they’re infused with coconut, cucumber, hyaluronic acid and caffeine to nourish, hydrate and de-puff the skin under my eyes. I usually leave them in the fridge so that when I apply them, I get an instant cooling sensation which also helps to strengthen the de-puff process. As if that’s not enough, I go in with my chilled Rose Quartz face roller to let the serum penetrate deeper into the skin.

Face oil

While I would reserve the face oils for bedtime, I thought of adding this extra step to achieve that healthy, luminous glow. I like to use lightweight oils and I’ve just discovered Melvita’s Nectar Blanc Brightening Duo which works perfectly for me as it blends oil and water together. Using a complex blend of concentrated extracts from five white flowers and Lily flower oil, the formula mimics the skin’s balance of oil and water and creates a brightening and clearer complexion. To use this, shake the bottle and spray it into cupped hands before pressing it to your skin.

Lip balm

My last and essential step before I’m done with my skincare routine is applying lip balm. Although it’s part of my daily regime as I tend to get dry lips, I think it adds a finishing touch to my already-moisturised face and leaves my lips looking and feeling soft and hydrated all day long. My favourite is Claire’s Shea Butter Lip Care as it instantly nourishes and heals my lips. It’s also got shea butter and pure Vitamin E oil which helps to reduce the look of fine line on my lips and prevent the penetration of free radicals.
