Our ombré obsession just went OTT (in a good way) with a super-shiny spin.
Remember how we said lip gloss is making a comeback? Now add this lustrous transparent top coat over the two-toned lip trend and voilà – you’ve got a futuristic formula for ombré and holographic puckers that’s insanely Insta-worthy (can we say prism palette perfection?!). Plus, the bold, borderline-unicorn look is absolutely #trending: we’ve spotted them shining ever so brightly on the Spring/Summer runways, starting with the sporty-fresh ombré orange-red lip at Jason Wu to the show-stopping cherry-magenta pout at Cushnie et Ochs.
Still can’t part ways with your liquid matte lippies? No worries. Just glide them on as usual and gradually build up the glossy layer as much (or as little) as you’re comfortable with to add new dimensional depth to your favourite lip colour. Need step-by-step help? Check out how we achieve our #MakeupMonday look below:
Step 1: Outline and fill in the entire lip using a nude-coloured lip pencil to set your base.
Step 2: Apply a citrusy or coral hue all over the top and bottom lip. Tip: use a lip brush for an even coverage.
Step 3: Using a cooler pink shade, apply it onto the centre and inner part of your top and bottom lip. Blend well.
Step 4: Apply a clear or shimmery gloss over your two-toned lips and you’re done!
PRO TIP: finding it difficult to create an ombré effect with two separate lippies? Just use a two-in-one product that has both colours in a single bullet!
