Every country has its own customs, whether it’s for greetings, gestures or eating etiquette. The last thing we want during our travels is to offend the locals; so to avoid being in that situation, here are some customs you can take note of if you’re visiting these seven countries.

NORTH AMERICA

It isn’t mandatory but tipping is a practised culture in the USA. As a foreigner you’re kind of expected (but not obligated) to tip different service staff, for example, the hotel housekeeper, concierge, bellman, taxi driver and valet parking attendant. But only if you feel it’s fair or for a satisfactory job. Tips are generally 10-20 per cent of your total bill (without sales tax).
