This hotel might sit on a history that dates back to 1970, but its recent re-branding proves that they’re just as capable of keeping up with the times.
Strategically located at the beginning of Singapore’s vibrant Orchard Road (and just walking distance to the Orchard MRT station), the newly refurbished Orchard Rendezvous hotel definitely appeals to its new targeted audience of modern travellers despite being known for its old-world charm. I recently had the opportunity to stay there during a media trip and just to give you a gist of why you should consider this hotel the next time you’re in the lion city, here are four interesting facts you should know:
1. Don’t judge a hotel by its exterior
The picture on the left is of the Ming Court Hotel that was officially opened back in June 1970 and the image on the right is of the current Orchard Rendezvous hotel which you’ll see staring back at you if you were to visit Singapore today. Almost 49 years have past since, but if there’s one thing I learnt, it’s to never judge a book by its cover. Yes, the hotel might look dated on the outside, but on the inside, it’s practically a whole new world.
The renovations of the hotel was completed in September 2018 and not only did it come with a spanking new interior and a name change (before this, it was always known as the Orchard Parade Hotel since 1991), the Far East Hospitality Group also gave the Rendezvous brand a refreshing new logo – one we think will appeal to the millennial crowd. Just look at how Instagram-friendly their new room key cards are!
Orchard Rendezvous Hotel is the first property to reflect the refreshed Rendezvous brand and the new logo. Other properties under the brand (such as the Rendezvous Hotel Singapore, Rendezvous Hotel Melbourne, Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough, Rendezvous Hotel Perth Central, Rendezvous Hotel Sydney The Rocks and Rendezvous Hotel Sydney Central) will also be refreshed progressively.
