Whether you’re travelling for work or leisure, you’ll appreciate having a little pocket of wellness in the middle of bustling Singapore.
In our recent Travel Choice Awards, we gave our Best Weekend Getaway award to… Singapore! That’s right, our little island neighbour is the best place to go if you have a weekend to spare. So if you’ve decided that a few days down south sounds good, we’ve got the perfect place for you to stay.
Meet the Oasia hotels. Managed by Far East Hospitality, these hotels are serious about being your escape in the fast-paced city. To put it simply, they want to give you a place to rest comfortably and invigorate both mind and body. And trust me, whether you’re travelling for work or leisure, you’ll appreciate having a little pocket of wellness in the middle of bustling Singapore– as I learnt when I had the chance to stay at two Oasia hotels during my recent trip with them! Here’s why I think you’ll love them too.
Opened in October 2011, Oasia Hotel Novena is Oasia’s first hotel. Its convenient location and commitment to being a restorative retreat in the city makes it a favourite for both business and leisure travellers.
P.S. I should disclose that I stayed in this hotel a few years ago on a personal trip with my boyfriend and loved it every bit as much!
1. Location, location, location
When it comes to exploring the amazingly well-connected land of Singapore, you’re going to want to stay somewhere close to public transport. Oasia Novena is directly linked to the Novena MRT Station, which means the shopping district of Orchard (and the rest of Singapore) is easily accessible by public transportation. The hotel is also well-connected to major expressways and nearby shopping malls are just a few minutes’ walk away. As someone who prizes convenience, I adored this the most about the hotel.
2. Amazing interior design
Oasia Hotel Novena houses a total of 428 rooms – 88 Superior Rooms, 224 Deluxe Rooms, 100 Club Rooms and four Club Suites – which all feature tasteful, calming interior design courtesy of award-winning Japanese interior design firm Super Potato, in collaboration with local architectural firm Ong & Ong.
The design sense of Super Potato shines in the high ceilings, large wooden seating area and breath-taking stone wall that adorns Oasia Novena’s lobby, all of which are constructed with repurposed natural materials to avoid wastage. These design touches lend the hotel a distinctly Japanese slant in its restraint, subtle touches, and thoughtfulness– something that really appealed to me as a fan of Japanese design.
3. It’s all about unwinding
The last thing you should ever feel at an Oasia hotel is stressed. To escape the hustle and bustle of city life, head up to The Oasis, a tranquil terrace accented by bamboos and stones set in natural surroundings. There, you’ll find the 24-hour gym, sauna and steam room, tropical roof terrace and a pool featuring sunken deck chairs and a rooftop view of the city.
Did you know? Oasia is so committed to wellness, they pipe a signature uplifting scent made up of lavender, lemon and black tea infused with coriander and ginger throughout the hotel space.
4. All the food
For food, you don’t even have to leave the hotel if you don’t want to. There’s The Marmalade Pantry with its modern bistro cuisine of quality comfort-food prepared with the freshest seasonal produce, as well as their hearty room service menu. Or for a taste of local fare, well-known local eateries within close proximity such as Newton Food Centre and the Balestier vicinity.
My favourite thing to do, though, is to stay in and order room service. Trust me on this. Take a soak in the hot tub while your food is being prepared, slip into the provided bathrobe and enjoy a delicious meal on soft silky sheets while gazing out at the city below.
5. Spring for the club benefits
Our final tip? If you’re going to stay at the Oasia Hotel Novena, go all out and book yourself the Club experience. You’ll get a Club Room or Suite and exclusive privileges including access to the award-winning The Living Room Club lounge which comes with its own Club pool facilities, complimentary breakfast, free evening cocktails (!!) from 6-8 pm, all-day refreshments and barista-served coffee and more.
The Club rooms also best showcase the brilliance of Japanese interior design that I love so much. Materials such as wood, stone and fabric textures are used to reflect “kindness” and “warmth” of Oasia’s hospitality. All Club rooms are fitted with complimentary in-room wellness drinks in the mini-bar, Nespresso Coffee Machines and TWG Tea making facilities, bathtubs and rainshowers coupled with premium eco-friendly Biology bath amenities so you can refresh in style after a long day.
