Malaysia may be famous for its delicious local cuisine and idyllic beaches for a perfect summer holiday, but that’s not all it has to offer!

With a total coastline length of around 4,800 km and tropical climate, our country is undoubtedly one of the best places for water sports. If you’ve been feeling a little low on energy and are looking for a shot of adrenaline, these water sports will certainly keep you on your toes.

Whether it’s scuba diving, jet skiing, wakeboarding or flyboarding, Malaysia has it all! Here are the places you can visit for an adventurous time in the water.

1. Surfing

Countries such as Indonesia and Mauritius are popular destinations for Malaysians who are planning for a surfing holiday, but there are a few surfing spots closer to home to explore. The best time to surf is during the Northeast monsoon season from October to March when the islands on the east coast turn into an ideal surfer’s playground. The laid-back fishing village of Cherating in Pahang is a great over-the-weekend getaway place for beginners to try their hands at surfing by taking lessons at the surf school on the beach. If you’re travelling with non-surfers, consider the Wild Boar Beach in Desaru, Johor or Tanjung Simpang Mengayau in Kudat, Sabah where you can still enjoy surfing while your travel companions relax by the sandy beach.
