What To Expect From Tanjong Jara Resort’s First Women-Dedicated Sucimurni Retreat

The Sucimurni Retreat at Tanjong Jara Resort is back this November, and this time, it’s coming in hot with a female-focused spin.

Tanjong Jara Resort by YTL is an award-winning luxury vacation destination situated in Dungun, Terengganu.

I’ve been to Tanjong Jara Resort not once, but twice. The first time was back in 2016 to experience their Sucimurni Retreat with Tara Stiles, an American yoga instructor and founder of Strala Yoga. The second time happened to be just last weekend, where I, along with the team from Volvo, drove their brand new XC40 up to the East Coast for another round of yoga sessions with Malaysia’s very own established yoga teacher, Ninie Ahmah.

I’m not a very active person. In fact, the last time I actually did yoga was two years ago…with Tara. So why would someone put herself through that kind of torture twice in her life, you ask? Well, to be completely honest, there’s just something about escaping the city life, being surrounded by nature 24/7 and waking up to the most beautiful sunrise that I seem to crave for – despite being a city girl, someone who’s afraid of bugs and needs multiple alarms just to wake up everyday.

Just imagine a weekend where you can clear your mind, leave all your worries behind, bask in the sounds of nature and the South China Sea breeze. Doesn’t that sound tempting? I know it does.

Tanjong Jara Resort is anchored in Sucimurni, the ancient Malay way of life that embraces tranquility and purity through wholesome living, offering an authentic taste of the region’s spirit and an enduring embodiment of the gentle Malay arts of service and hospitality. Which makes sense now why this exclusive wellness experience is inspired by the concept of Sucimurni itself, as it promotes wholesome living through emphasising the purity of spirit, health and well-being.

One Yin yoga session + sound and breath healing session with Amanda Ling

To wrap-up the second day with a deep sense of balance and relaxation, Amanda Ling (founder of Align Origins, musician, yoga teacher and sound healing practitioner), will share with guests the healing wonders of Yin yoga. In this slower-paced practice based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taoist Yin Yang philosophy, postures allow a sense of release within the deeper connective tissues, fascia and joints in the body.

A unique Sound and Breath Meditation session focusing on the aspects of Nada (sound) Yoga will follow where Amanda will teach attendees various breath techniques to induce calmness and inner peace through breathing. Using Tibetan Tingsha bells and Singing Bowls to integrate sound vibrations into each breath, guests will learn how to build awareness to manage stress effectively.
