Gymnast Farah Ann Retains Her Gold Medal For Malaysia, Gets Hacked On Instagram

Seriously, Internet trolls?

Farah, the previous 2015 gold medalist, finished this year with a score of 13.425pts. Despite her win however, Farah – who is no stranger to Internet bullying after nasty netizens and politicians attacked her for her gymnastics gear in 2015- revealed that her Instagram account (@farahann94) had been hacked.

Farah Ann’s Instagram account, as of 3 pm, August 23 2017.

Hacking aside, it’s been a great Games showing for Malaysia’s artistic gymnastics team. Farah’s gold takes the team’s gold medal tally up to 4, with the rest of Malaysia’s gymnastics golds coming from Tan Ing Yueh in the women’s vault final, and Tan Fu Jie and Jeremiah Loo sharing the gold in the men’s pommel horse event with their tied scores.

Congratulations, Team Malaysia! And we hope Farah’s hacker is brought to swift justice soon.

UPDATE: Tan Ing Yueh’s gold medal has been demoted to silver, after an appeal for a recount by the Indonesian team. After judges revised their scores, the gold medal was awarded to Indonesia’s Rifda Irfanaluthfi instead.
