#MYSUPERFEMALE: Nadia Hasbi – Founder of Fit Rebel

“Test the waters before starting your business. What you have in mind and what people have in mind can be two very different things.” – Nadia

Background

Who would have thought a person’s love for bikinis would one day inspire her to open her own fitness apparel store? After graduating from university and working as a graduate trainee in a local company, Nadia decided to further her studies in the UK to do a Master’s in Business Administration. This led her on a new path as she got a chance to work and live in Brazil after completing her studies.

Fit Rebel

“In Brazil, I fell in love with bikinis! I loved the brand Liquido. My dad encouraged me to try going down the entrepreneurial route and maybe bring the brand to Malaysia. I never said no as I was already into business development then, but didn’t think much about it,” says Nadia.

It took a storm in her life to get Nadia started. When her dad passed away in 2012, she felt the need to move back to be with her mum; she also had to make another sacrifice – she and her boyfriend parted ways as they both understood that they couldn’t make the relationship work. It affected her badly but the one thing that brought her back up again were workout sessions at the gym.

“Sports healed me. That’s when I got the idea to make my dad’s dream come true,” explains Nadia. She started bringing Liquido apparel into Malaysia and selling them on her blog. In 2015, she launched her own business. Through crowdfunding, Nadia managed to secure more than RM20,000 to kick-start an online business, Fit Rebel (fitrebel.com), which sells affordable activewear. One of its main attractions is its attractive designs.

“I carry different ranges and one of my very own is called Seni by Fit Rebel. Batik is a big thing in Malaysia. I collaborated with batik artists and came up with five designs, digitalised the prints and got them printed on leggings. It’s my first collection and in time to come, I plan to collaborate more with people like tattoo artists and artists from around the world.

Advice

“My advice to young aspiring entrepreneurs is to always test the waters before starting your business. What you have in mind and what people have in mind can be two very different things,” adds Nadia.

SUISSE PROGRAMME PLATINUM PRECIOUS LUXURY MILK CLEANSER
Nadia: “This product has a smooth and luxurious texture without drying out my skin. It works well as a makeup remover, getting everything off, including mascara. Overall, I’m extremely pleased with how it works and would recommend it to anyone!”
