Netflix is growing its production of original teen movies, which we can’t be happier with! Considering how To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and Sierra Burgess is a Loser received so much attention from viewers when they were released, you might say Netflix has hit upon a gold mine.

If you haven’t noticed, the streaming service recently dropped their highly anticipated teen romantic comedy The Perfect Date over the weekend and it certainly lives up to its title thanks to the lead characters of our heartthrob internet boyfriend Noah Centineo, Laura Marano and Riverdale’s Camila Mendes.

The rom-com tells the story of Brooks Rattigan (Noah Centineo) who has the academic chops to get into his dream Ivy League school but is missing an outstanding extracurricular activitiesand money. When he seizes on an opportunity to make some extra cash by posing as the boyfriend of a self-assured, combat boot-loving girl named Celia Lieberman (Laura Marano), he finds he has a knack for being the perfect stand-in to people who need a companion. Together with his programmer friend Murph (Odiseas Georgiadis), Brooks launches an app selling himself as a plus-one with customized personality for various kind of occasions. Along the way, he meets his actual dream girl Shelby Pace (Camila Mendes) and makes it his goal to win her over.

As the movie made its debut on Netflix last Friday, we had the opportunity to speak with Laura Marano where she shared her excitement reuniting with Noah, experience playing the character of Celia Lieberman and behind-the-scenes stories of filming the movie.

FEMALE: The Perfect Date is finally out on Netflix. The wait must’ve been really long for you.

Laura: Yeah definitely, I’m so excited that it’s finally out. We filmed the movie last year around this time and would’ve been wrapping up the final scenes. I’m just so excited that it’s finally out on Netflix.

F: You’ve previously worked with Noah Centineo in Austin and Ally. How does it feel to reunite with him again for this movie?

L: It was so lovely! He’s honestly such a wonderful person and he hasn’t changed at all since he was 15. It was so great to work with him again and it was fun catching up. We haven’t seen each other for such a long time. Honestly, it’s been so much heat and fun and it’s incredible!

F: Did the chemistry between you two come by easily this time around?

L: Oh yeah, it was like the good old times. In our previous project, we had a really weird dance scene and I love it – in a weird way – how The Perfect Date pages a lot into our scenes and characters in Austin and Ally. But the characters were also quite different. I feel that Celia and Ally couldn’t be more different from one another which I kind of love.

F: It’s your first time working with Camila Mendes. How was it like acting alongside her?

L: Yes, it was my first time working with her and she’s absolutely awesome! I just can’t stop saying nice things about her. We saw each other recently because I was in Vancouver filming another project and she was there filming Riverdale so we hung out a few times. She just couldn’t be more awesome. Seriously, she’s so talented and funny. All of the cast – Camila, Noah, Odiseas and I – felt really close and we have pretty intense and deep conversations with each other and it’s kind of nice.
