Features & Lifestyle Writer Tammy had the opportunity to preview the movie in Los Angeles last week. Her verdict? 11/10, and she would absolutely watch it again!

Is Crazy Rich Asians just like any other Hollywood rom-com? Yes. Is it worth the hype of being Hollywood’s first all-Asian movie in 25 years? ABSOLUTELY.

Here’s why.

1. Expect to laugh a lot… but also shed a tear or two

Just like every other rom-com you’ve watched, this movie is made up of the same ingredients. There’ll be moments when you can’t stop laughing and there’ll be scenes that’ll leave you crying while your boyfriend/husband wonders if it’s that time of the month again.

Crazy Rich Asians struck gold when they added Ken Jeong and Awkwafina to the cast. Their characters alone and hilarious banter as father and daughter will make you wish the two had more screen time during the movie. I know it’s Rachel Chu’s story, but is it too early to petition for a Goh family spin-off?

As for when you should expect the waterworks to happen, I’d say during the scenes between Rachel and her mum (played by the one and only Tan Kheng Hua who we might all remember from the Phua Chu Kang series) along with the Mahjong scene between Rachel and Eleanor Young (effortlessly portrayed by Michelle Yeoh). I personally bawled my eyes out during the wedding scene because who doesn’t cry at weddings #amiright? Henry Golding and Constance Wu’s on-screen chemistry was off the charts and I can now see why Director Jon M. Chu decided to push the movie back five months just so Constance could be in it.
