FUN FACT: Jackie Chan brought in a stunt team and choreographed all the action sequences for this movie!
As you already know, I’m still reeling over my Comic Con experience. One of the many incredible things I got to do during my trip was interview the cast of The Lego Ninjago Movie. Held at the Hilton Bayfront hotel, the half an hour press conference was one I’ll never forget – despite the ‘no pictures allowed’ rule.
When the cast first entered the meeting room, all I could think of was how gorgeous Olivia Munn looked like in person; how Justin Theroux, husband of the one and only Jennifer Anniston, was sitting just a few feet away from me; how tall Zach Woods actually is and how bothered I was by the thickness of Dave Franco’s eyebrows. I literally watched CHIPs before heading to US, so seeing Michael Peña in the flash had me kinda star struck. Also, side note that Abbi Jacobson is really adorable and Kumail Nanjiani is just as funny in person as he is in all the shows I’ve seen him in.
With that said, the movie is releasing nationwide this Thursday (21st September), so if you’re still on the fence on whether you should buy a ticket to watch it, here are five reasons why I think it’ll be worth your money.
1. All past LEGO movies have been about family. This one is no different.
It might be a martial arts / robots movie, but producer Dan Lin emphasised during the press conference that this is the “most beautiful LEGO movie so far” – in terms of graphics, animation and story line. He explained that the movie is about empathy and learning how to love others before loving oneself. “In this case there’s a big conflict and rivalry between Llyod the green ninja (Dave Franco) and his evil villain dad, Garmadon (Justin Theroux). So not only is the movie about him learning what’s lovable about his dad, the other characters also get to resolve issues each of them have personally as well. We want people to enjoy the movie and the trick is that we surprise the audience with real emotions and a real lesson at the end.”
