2. WORQ Coworking Space by Yi-Di Ng, Senior Web Writer
“I’m not a big believer in the 8-hour workday. Life – or my brain for that matter – doesn’t function according to the 9 to 5 routine, so why should you? In most industries, there’s no reason why work needs to be completed before 5 pm – and in these modern times, everyone is just a Whatsapp message away so it’s not like you have to be physically present for an 8 hour stretch. Flexible work hours are an important step to keeping women in the workforce – and for good reason.
Honestly, if I didn’t have to come in to the office to water the plant on my desk, I’d probably never go in at all. So when I found out I needed to review WORQ, a coworking space, I jumped at the chance to get out of the office for the day.
Located in the Glo Damansara shopping complex, WORQ is a five-minute walk from the Taman Tun MRT Station – which makes it super convenient to get to if you live along the MRT line like me. Stepping into WORQ was an entirely different experience. I immediately fell in love with the airy, welcoming space and the people working quietly at their desks. The vibe I got was sooooo positive and calming, unlike any other workspace I’d ever seen. The air smelled like freshly-brewed coffee from the pantry and buzzed with a nice, peaceful energy.
WORQ’s working spaces are divided into private and community areas so you can work the way you want to. For RM300 a month, you’ll get a hotdesk membership, meaning you’re free to work at any available open desk at WORQ. You can double that price for a dedicated desk in a shared suite if you don’t want to have to look for a place to sit each day. If you’ve got a team of people, you can book a private suite at RM500 per person. All membership tiers give you 24/7 access to a comfortable place to work for less than the cost of a cup of coffee as well as a range of benefits at surrounding gyms, restaurants, and services. Day passes are also available at RM40 per day for non-members who can’t or don’t want to commit to a monthly plan.
The facilities are amazingly well thought out – from the open pantry with free coffee and tea, sleeping pods, game room, the mini gym complete with a shower and powder room. There are even kiosk points where you can order yourself a Dahmakan meal or a Grab!
And of course, being located in a shopping mall means you have other amenities right at your doorstep. Need to use an ATM? Pick up groceries for dinner? Or just take a break to fit in a workout? You can do all of that too. No more being chained to your desk for the 9 to 5 slog– you can craft the perfect workday to suit yourself.
And I really mean that. WORQ is open to members for 24 hours, 7 days a week. Non-members will have to talk to front desk staff, from 9 am to 6 pm. Any issues you may have – like I did on the day with a faulty WiFi connection – can be reported through a group chat and the staff will attend to it immediately. Unlike at my regular office, I left reluctantly at the end of the day, wishing I could work here every day. If only all offices were like this.”
