Here are seven reasons why we think this is going to be your next fave hangout spot!
Strategically located in the middle of Penang’s picturesque heritage district is Two Buns, a newly-opened casual eatery that serves a wide selection of burgers. Managed by an energetic young crew, the interior exudes a youthful vibe that will make you want to make return trips. I recently had a chat with its co-founder Tommy Yap, who fills us in on this burger bistro.
1. It is run by the same people behind The Alley
If you’ve ever been café-hopping in Penang, we’re 100 per cent sure you’ve made a trip to The Alley (located on Steward Lane) for coffee, churros and cronuts. From baristas to grillers, how’s that for a change in scenery?
2. Not for the faint-hearted
From ‘Beefy Business’ (beef patty with peanut butter) to ‘Mr. Bao’ (braised pork belly with salad), there’s definitely something for everyone to sink their teeth into. Psst… go for the Crispy Chicken Burger with Roasted Sesame Mayo if you’re not the adventurous kind.
3. Expect only the finest ingredients
Had a great dinner with my foodie Instagramers on evening yesterday. • Thanks you @twobunspenang for the invitation and your great hospitality! 🤗🤗🤗 [In Frame] > Shio Bak > Pull Me Away > Dirty Fried – – – #cafehopmy #cafehoppg #photooftheday #manmakecoffee #anakkopi #masfotokopi #hobikopi #baristadaily #workhardanywhere #coffeeholic #coffeeoftheday #coffeeaddict #coffeelover #coffee #coffeetime #coffeeshop #coffeelove #coffeegram #coffeelovers #vscocoffee #coffeebreak #coffeeeee #darlingmovement #morningslikethese #darlingweekend #livefolk #coffeenclothes #iphoneonly #coffeeporn #momentsofmine
Lead by a head chef with solid experience (he sold his popular food-truck business in Alor Setar, Kedah, a few years back), one can only imagine what Chef Zi will bring to the table – think homemade sauces and patties!
4. Not everything is about the patty
Have you ever wondered what a Guinness-Nutella ice cream tastes like on crispy, toasted buns? Well, you’ll just have to visit Two Buns to find out.
5. You don’t have to grow up
Why worry about work and taxes when you can bring out your inner 12 year old with a game of King of Fighters? Now girls, we predict this will keep your boyfriends occupied while you dive deep into girl talk.
6. Bringing boys (and girls) to the yard since Oct 2016
Hand-crafted burgers aside, you should definitely give the milkshakes a try as well. The spiky caramel milkshake with ice cream and rum (topped with bacon) is the signature drink here.
7. Home to the cheapest beers
RM12 for a bottle of Tiger and RM55 for a bucket. Sounds tempting? Well, now you know where to head to when you’re visiting the island and in need of an uber-cool hangout spot craving a juicy hamburger! Because, let’s face it, we should never let go of a really good patty.
