Warm and fluffy, waffles are just one of the best kinds of desserts to have in this chilly weather that we’re having lately. Even more so when these honeycombed patterned flat cakes are served warm with a scoop of ice cream, topped with assorted berries and chocolate sauce or maple syrup, Yumm! It’s so much fun when it’s eaten with family and friends, so gather everyone around and choose one of our picks for a nice Waffle-ful dessert!

1. Wafflemeister

This handmade liege waffle made with premium ingredients  presents itself in a simple manner but full of yummy goodness. Liege means the waffle has glistening edges from the caramalised sugar, so you’ll get a slight crunch at the top with a fluffy inside with every bite! The UK waffle chain makes baked golden squares taken from an old Belgian family recipe that dates back to the 1950s and serves them with a generous amount of whipped cream and topped with a choice of strawberries (our favourite!), marshmallows, bananas, Oreos or chocolate sauce. The price is slightly steep ranging from RM11 to RM19 for its size, but it’s money well spent!

2. The Daily Grind

You may have heard of this burger joint in Bangsar Village I, tucked in a corner where people go to chill out with friends over a good burger set. Do you know that they also have waffles there? We swear their waffles are huge for one person, so it’s a good excuse to catch up with pals. Served with heaps of whipped cream with strawberries sandwiched between two waffles, and a generous drizzle of maple syrup and sifted icing sugar with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side, just thinking about them makes us drool! Reading about it won’t do it justice, you’ve got to go there and try the waffles yourself.

Not only does this little ice cream shop make a good pit stop to cool down, it also has some fabulously good waffles. Their waffles are fuss-free, simple and straightforward comfort food. If you’re not in a rush, do try out their buttermilk waffles that are crispy on the outside but soft and airy on the inside. You can also opt to eat them with for a choice of one, two or three scoops of Inside Scoops’ freshly made ice cream too. We recomend to try their charcoal waffles or the original buttermilk.

Located in Calvary Convention Centre in Bukit Jalil, this joint is the offspring of The Owls Cafe. With ample lights, clean light-wood decor and spacious area, the cafe might as well just have Instagram worthy written on their front door especially since their waffles are pretty too! Shaped like a flower, their waffles come in four signature choices; Rebecca – waffles with berries, banana, earl grey ice cream, almond flakes, coconut flakes and Maple syrup; David – waffles with banana, vanilla ice cream, peanut butter, chocolate sauce, almond flakes and toasted coconut flakes; Milo Dinosaur – waffles with dark chocolate ice cream, marshmallow, coco crunch, milo powder and condensed milk; and The Classic – waffles with French butter and maple syrup. The presentation is top notch, and so is the taste!

With 5 outlets here in Malaysia, this fusion of Japanese flavours meet Belgium waffles are a lot less sweet than what one would normally associate desserts with. But don’t let this stop you from trying out their premium made waffles infused with matcha flavours made from Kyoto green tea powder. They have 6 other flavours of single waffles – original, Belgian dark chocolate, white chocolate, coffee, honey & cinnamon; all available for those who want to grab a quick bite. If you want to dine in, have a go at their waffle gelato selections that come with fresh cream, ice cream and nuts and fruity toppings. Complement your sweet dessert with some hot espressos, piccolo lattes, chocolate mochas, and matcha lattes. Now that sounds like a good tea time delight!
