A feast for the tummy, eyes and soul.
With countless cafés of distinctive character popping up like wild mushrooms, the way to a customer’s heart is no longer just through the stomach but rather the overall experience. As a foodie and a constant café hopper (check out p. 252 of our April issue!), we rounded up eight cafés with some of the most unique interiors and ambience that can beautifully decorate your Instagram feed – no filter needed!
1. Awesome Canteen
Tucked away in a less-travelled compound of Taman Paramount in Petaling Jaya, Awesome Canteen lives up to its name with their nostalgic display of typewriters, rotary phones and canteen-style metal stools. With the perfect amount of natural greens to compliment the salvaged-wood furnitures, it would be hard to resist snapping away at every corner you see.
Address: 19, Jalan 20/13, Taman Paramount, 46300, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
2. The Owls Café
Strategically located on the first floor of Bukit Jalil’s shop lots, this cosy coffee shop houses plenty of owl-themed decor, hand-painted wall art and crockery that are bound to make you go “Aww”. Just to give you a heads up, their gorgeous waffles that also contributed to their fame are very limited and will most likely be sold out by 5pm! #justsaying
Address: 12-1, First Floor, Block 5 Jalil Link, Jalan Jalil Jaya 6, Bukit Jalil 57000, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
3. Meteora Café
eteora Café managed to quickly grab the hearts of Subang-ites and even neighbouring café hoppers with their at-home setup and the staff’s easy-going demeanor. Vintage wall art, old school board games and white paper lanterns that cover up the entire ceiling are some of the many factors that make us fall crazy in love with this quaint neighbourhood hangout.
Address: 54-1, Jalan USJ 9/5P, 47620 Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.
4. BAD by Wood & Steel
Created by the masterminds behind Wood & Steel in Kota Damansara, BAD Café oozes a vibe similar to its sister café where retro art pieces and one-of-a-kind furnitures made out of wood and steel seem to be the main focus of the coffee shop’s interior. Thoughtfully crafted from the decor to its music playlists, we’re not surprised at how much this double-storied space is dominating our Instagram timeline!
1) B-G-10, Galeria Hartamas, Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
2) A1-G1-06, Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Named after a humble town in Yemen where traders from all over the world gather to trade coffee in the 15th century, Mukha lies daintily in a cosy shop lot at TTDI with loads to offer. The mismatched furnitures and Middle Eastern elements, along with the retro touch of exposed brick walls, make taking like-worthy Instagram pictures a piece of cake!
Address: 15, Lorong Rahim Kajai 13, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, 60000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
With a name that calls for a double-take, this sleek and modern café has an equally compelling interior that looks right out of a Pinterest board. Thursdvys is definitely one of the most tastefully designed caffeine bars in town as every decor piece featured is unique on its own yet seem to blend together with the rest beautifully. So much to capture, so little time!
Address: 22, Lorong Datuk Sulaiman 1, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, 60000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
7. Ode Art Café
This laid-back cum creative community space adds the perfect artistic touch to the forever-bustling town of SS15. Opened to host any creative events and showcase artworks from artists of all kinds, this out-of-the-box coffee bar is a handsome concoction of arts and hearty home-made meals, fueling the mind and appetite all at once!
Address: 112, First Floor, Jalan SS15/4B, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.
