4 Places For A Different Kind Of Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner

Prev1 of 4

Time sure flies! It feels like just yesterday we were picking out our favourite Chinese New Year feast venues, but that was an entire year ago and now it’s time to celebrate another lunar new year. And with all celebrations comes food!

If you’re looking for a reunion meal with a difference (think beyond the multi-course sit down banquet dinners) this year, check out our picks below.

1. Chynna, Hilton KL

Chinese New Year reunion dinners at hotel restaurants may be a tradition for a number of families, but let me tell you that Hilton’s Chynna serves up one with a memorable twist. At first glance, the menu looks very much like your standard elaborate reunion dinner fare – fish, meat, a big rice dish and desserts at the end – but reserve judgement until the dishes actually land on your table.

Chynna manages to reinvent each dish in a delightful, yet practical way. The Yu Sheng is topped with strawberries and hazelnuts. Instead of a whole fish, the fish dish is served in convenient slices. A somewhat unorthodox but delicious salted egg fried chicken makes the main dish. The final rice dish takes the form of individual sliced rolls, a la maki sushi. This is the kind of meal that’s perfect if you have foreign guests who may not be used to whole fish on the bone or shelled prawns– or children, for that matter. Both will also be delighted by the spectacular tea pouring performance that greets every visitor, and the exquisitely plated desserts!

Chynna’s Chinese New Year Delights at Hilton Kuala Lumpur is available from 7th January to 24th February 2019, with sets ranging from RM288 to RM688 per person.
