A light facial yoga exercise will help to smooth out those fine lines and to turn back the clock giving you a youthful, lifted complexion. Facial yoga promises to relax and tone muscles – while you may have to do ridiculous and exaggerated expressions along the way. Of course, these steps won’t totally result in an instant youthful skin but it prevents it from further sagging, it’ll definitely help you in the long run. We’re taking notes on the three easy to do facial exercises from Dior as part of their Dior Hydra Life skin beauty coaching to retain your youth.

1. Wow! Pushups

Relax your shoulders, keep your head up straight and say ‘wow!’. Make sure to exaggerate the pronunciation of the word. This technique allows the muscles around your mouth to stretch.

2. Plump Up Posture

Fill your mouth with air and move it around. Start by moving the air towards your left cheek and hold it for 5 seconds. Then transfer the air to the right of the cheek, followed by the upper lip and lower lip.

3. Detox posture

To purify your skin, help clear your mind and loosen up those tense shoulders this method can do the trick! Inhale with the right shoulder up towards the ear and exhale. With force, let your shoulders go down. Repeat on the left side. Now inhale with both shoulders up and exhale. Do this 5 times on each side and as well as for the combo.

Do these regularly for an effective result!

Grown Alchemist, the Australian botanical beauty brand is now available in Malaysia! You’ll find their organic science-backed skincare and body products at Ken’s Apothecary.

We spoke to Jeremy Muijs, the founder and CEO of Grown Alchemist, on why the brand has resonated very well with Asians and the importance of organic skincare.

FEMALE: Welcome to Kuala Lumpur! What does it mean for the brand to be in Malaysia?

Jeremy Muijs: “It’s amazing! Our products are primarily created for the Asian market, and being from Australia, we feel like we live in Asia, so it feels great to be launching products that we consider are perfect for this market. In Australia, we see an uptake of interest in herbalism, Chinese medicine and homoeopathy: Disciplines that actually talk about wellness, not sickness. And as a brand, our beliefs are about restoring wellness. When we talk to an Asian audience, we find that they’re immediately more on our page because they get our ideas. We’ve waited patiently until the right time to launch our brand and now we feel we’ve got the perfect range of products.”

F: The brand centres around organic, botanical ingredients; why do you feel organic beauty is so important?

JM: “It’s about receptivity. Natural, organic and wild-harvested ingredients have a molecular structure that the body can recognise and therefore utilise them. When the ingredients are artificial, the body isn’t familiar with them, so the utilisation goes down and the rejection goes up. In skincare, rejections are obviously very bad, causing inflammation and ageing. At Grown Alchemist, what we’re trying to do is to decrease rejection and deliver high-nutrient contents for the skin.”

F: What do you decide on before developing a new product?

JM: “The first thing we do is think of the very purpose of the product – what do we want the product to achieve? For instance, if the need is hydration and age repair, then we look at what ingredients are needed to put into this product to trigger that positive response; whether they will work symbiotically to deliver a definite outcome for that skincare problem.”

F: How do we detox our skin?

JM: “Detox happens over time. The first thing you can do is to immediately stop using products with synthetic ingredients. Then also has to be a change in your lifestyle. Try sleeping more, altering your emotional state to a positive one or changing what you eat. Learn to meditate; it’s been said that one hour’s worth of meditation is equal to three hours of sleep! In terms of topical detox, you can try our detox serum, a specific product that targets three toxins – carbon, nitrogen and oxygen – the three types of toxins that we metabolise regularly in our skin.”

F: How would you define a good cleansing routine?

JM: “I’d be looking at how you’re cleansing. After you’ve finished cleansing, take a fresh cotton pad and swipe it across your face. If you’re not getting any dirt on it, it means you’re clean. If you are getting something, you need to go back and cleanse. Keep doing that until you’re confident that there’s actually no more makeup, dirt or anything left. The key is to not use an aggressive cleanser that strips your skin off your natural oils. That’s where natural products are good.”

I have bad dark circles.

Like really bad.

I’m pretty sure they’re always going to be there, because no amount of sleep or expensive skincare has made them look any better. Interestingly, while the eyebags of my sleep-deprived teenage years have certainly faded with my more mature and healthy sleeping schedule, the darkness under my eyes have remained. Besides eyeliner, the one makeup step I absolutely cannot do without is a good undereye concealer. When I give the concealer a miss, I never fail to get comments about how tired I am or polite enquiries after my health.

But a good concealer is hard to find. I’ve tried so many that either put on a sheer wash of insipid flesh-coloured pigment, go on unflatteringly dry and cakey, or fade away in an hour.

It took literal years for me to find concealers that could actually work on my nightmarish dark circles. So once again, trust me when I say these concealers actually work to hide dark circles. And you know me: I love my budget beauty, so these amazing concealers won’t cost you more than RM40.

Let’s go!

Two words: ABSOLUTE BRILLIANCE

It’s day one of the 2017 San Diego Comic Con and what better way to kick things off than by starting with a panel of the most anticipated sequel this year! I’m talking about Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle!

So many things happened during the panel! Commentator Jonathan Ross made us laugh with his trademark kooky sense of humour. Channing Tatum wore a shirt that showcased his trademark biceps. Jeff Bridges looking slightly high throughout. Taron Edgerton and Colin Firth’s English banter and Halle Berry chugging half a pint of bourbon.

All the panel chit-chat and interviews aside, my excitement was at its highest when 3 exclusive clips from the upcoming movie were played just for us! I won’t spoil it for you guys, but what I can do is share my takeaways from them. So here’s what you can expect from the Kingsman sequel:

1. Crazy stunts…from the get-go

We were shown a clip of the first few minutes of the movie set to be released in September and boy, was it action-packed! Basically, it starts with a fight scene between Eggsy and a fellow rejected Kingsman. So be sure to expect some killer stunt scenes in that opening sequence.

2. Channing Tatum

Channing plays Agent Tequila (Don’t laugh, I’m actually serious! Jeff Bridges plays Agent Champagne, Halle Berry is Gingerale and Pedro Pascal’s character is named Agent Whiskey), a member of an American Secret Service called Statesmen. In the clip, he was all dressed up in cowboy attire with a heavy southern accent, and if that doesn’t look hot to you, I don’t know what will. When asked what his most memorable scene of the movie was, during the panel, Channing blushed whilst struggling to give a straight answer. Sadly, he revealed nothing in the end and said that all the scenes were his favourite. Boo.

3. Be prepared to laugh

Before the whole panel started, we were showed this clip which has now been uploaded onto YouTube.

It shows an animated Eggsy meeting Sterling Archer and if there’s one thing you can learn from that clip is that the new Kingsman movie will be staying true to the comedic element that made the first film so great in the first place.

4. Julianne Moore will play the villain you’ll love to hate

Julianne Moore plays Poppy, the show’s new villain. From what we saw at the panel, it’s safe to say that she’ll bring home the award for ‘Most Insane/Disturbing Villian’. Matthew Vaughn, the movie’s director even described Poppy’s character as “Martha Stewart on crack” so if that doesn’t sound intriguing, I don’t know what does!

5. Not for the faint-hearted

If you think the church killing scene in Kingsman: The Secret Service was disturbing, wait till you see what happens in this sequel. We were shown a clip that involved Poppy and two other characters and let’s just say, I’m definitely not eating burgers for awhile now.

Check out more pics from the panel below:

Audi A4 B9 2.0 TFSI

Price: RM248,900 (OTR Without Insurance)

The Audi has made its name in Malaysia for being one of the most sought-after premium rides money can buy, and although the A4 has always been labelled as a ‘man’s car’ due to its size, I beg to differ. Nothing makes us women feel more powerful and empowered than by being behind the leather wheel of a sedan that leaves an impression everywhere it goes!

Let me start by bragging that not only is this ninth-generation A4 fitted with the latest Inline 4-cylinder engine with direct injection, an exhaust turbocharger and Audi’s valvelift system, but it also comes with a seven-speed S tronic gearbox that allowed me to go from 0-100km in just 7.3 seconds! Though the B9 is 120kg lighter than its predecessor, the handling has definitely improved compared with previous models like the B8.5. If your pet peeve is wind noise, don’t worry as the insulation is superb!

If you prioritise looks, then you’ll love the dashboard. Yes, I did think the 17-inch five-parallel spoke design wheels and sporty shape of the car were stunning but I felt the exterior changes were so minimal that many might mistake it for another facelift instead of a full model change. Nonetheless, this can be fixed by opting for the additional S line package at RM25,000.

It was a breeze to drive (especially at night, thanks to the automatic anti-glare action feature on the rear-view mirror), and my friends adored the manual blinds on the rear door windows too, which came in handy in the scorching heat. In all, the A4 can probably be categorised as ‘affordable’ considering its looks, features and that I only need to sell one (not both!) kidney to be able to pay for it right now.

Inevitable and annoying. Flyaway hairs (or baby hair, as it’s also known) are a huge pet peeve of mine.

I used to think that they’d eventually grow out and I’d soon live a sleek, stray hair-free life but sadly, not only does my age increase each year, so does the amount of stray flyaway hairs on my head.

I would dread tying my hair into a ponytail every time I go out cos the tiny hairs along my hairline just never seem to lie flat, making me look like I just woke up. To be honest, until I was told to do a video for our FEMALE Express Beauty section, I didn’t even know that there was a solution to tame those stubborn fuzzies! So if you’ve been in the dark like me, then consider today your lucky day.

Step 1: Pull your hair up into a ponytail

Step 2: Spray a good amount of hairspray on an unused toothbrush or a clean mascara brush.

Step 3: Run it lightly over the parts of your hair you want tamed down.

Ta-daaa! Easy peasy! Now let your hairspray work its magic and go enjoy your day!

The main look for CHANEL’s 2017-18 Fall-Winter Haute Couture Show Backstage was a fresh departure from the normally muted, earthy colours of the colder seasons.

To create the striking eye look, makeup artist Tom Pecheux used Chanel’s Ombre Premiere eyeshadow in no less than 5 different shades from their 2017 Eyes Collection. Rich primary colours applied in a color block-esque mannerand artfully blended made the models look like they were wearing works of art on their lids– which is something we’ve tried and whole-heartedly recommend!

Wanting to keep the focus on the eyes, the rest of the face – from brows to skin and lips – were kept simple with touches of foundation, concealer, and powder. Brows were lightly filled in and set with gel. And that gorgeous nude lip? Rouge Coco in the shade Daylight, which you can expect from their 2017 Fall/Winter Collection.

And here’s a close-up of that magnificent eye look!

These Are The Best Air Puff Hacks We’ve Ever Seen! http://femalemag.com.my/beauty/best-air-puff-hacks-major-beauty-game-changer/ Wed, 19 Jul 2017 15:06:49 +0000 http://femalemag.com.my/?p=36386 We didn’t realise there were so many uses to this circular soft cushion puffs. It’s endless!

The post These Are The Best Air Puff Hacks We’ve Ever Seen! appeared first on female.

]]>
Air puffs are the bomb! This understated beauty tool can work wonders. You usually get them as the applicator puff for cushion compacts. We know these babies are great at blending your foundation for a poreless, smooth finish but we haven’t thought about using it for other beauty uses until we saw Beauty Youtuber, Morgan from TheBeautyBreakdown’s air puff hacks video.

Honestly, it seems like the number of hacks you can do with this little thing is endless, we didn’t realise there were so many uses to this circular soft cushion puffs. With that below are five of our favourite ways of using the air puffs:

1. No under eye creases

To avoid getting creases under your eye area when applying concealer, spritz some facial mist to dampened the puffs and pat on the concealer to reveal a smooth and moisturised finish. You can also set the concealer with powder by applying it with the same damped puffs. Hello, crease free under eyes!

2. Blush Blender

Since the puff evenly blends out products, you can achieve seamless flush cheeks by blending the blush with it. If you’ve put on too much blush, don’t try to wipe it away, instead pat a little powder on top to create a subtle natural flush on the cheeks.

3. Easy Contouring

Push forward your middle finger at the back of the puff to create a fold. Pick up your product in the centre of the puff and place it on your cheekbones and jawline. You can immediately get a perfect guideline plus it’s super easy! What we love most about using the puff for contouring is that it blends in the colour into a soft, almost natural like shadow. To contour your nose, simply fold the puff in half and with that thin folded edge, place it on the side of your nose and blend.

4. Apply Sunscreen

So what you can do to touch up on sunscreen whilst having makeup on is to pat the sunscreen with the puff. Squeeze out a pea size amount on the back of your hand and pat it on the face. No white cast and no smudged makeup. Yay!

5. Achieve Gradient Lip

Keep your fingers clean and create the gradient lip look with an air puff. Place some lip tint, cream or lipstick on the tip of the puff and gently and evenly pat it on your lips. You’ll get a more even coating on the lips and makes blending the lip colours easier without harsh lip lines.

Now in an exclusive video for Vogue, she breaks down every step of her wedding day makeup look and shows you how to do it on yourself! She describes it as being simple and timeless, which is honestly a breath of fresh air in this age of fabulous, over-the-top Instagram stage makeup.

Everything is applied with a beautifully light hand, and I’m in love with her idea of wearing rosy blush on her cheeks and around her brow bone and lids for a truly natural flush that pops. And while her look is absolutely glowing, there’s no highlighter or illuminator in sight– just lots of hydrating skincare, moisturiser and face oil.

We speak to Melbourne-based pastry master Pierrick Boyer of Le Petit Gateau about his collaboration menu at the Madeline Cafe & Pattiserie in Kuching!

FEMALE: What are five things that people can expect from the new menu that’ll be launching at Madeline Cafe & Pattiserie?

Pierrick Boyer: Expect my Melbourne best-sellers: the brownie passion, the gluten-free orange flourless cake, the revised peanut crunch (my personal fave!) You can also expect flavours, textures mixed with local flavours. And of course, lots of favourites that I’ve been fine tuning over the past 10 years. Because cakes evolve with time, I want them to be sharp, streamlined, simple, and elegant without being overly done.

F: Tell us more about the collaboration. What’s unique and different about the new menu that’s about to be launched?

PB: Food Journal Sdn Bhd is a up-and-coming F&B group based in Sarawak. With their maiden F&B concept – the Madeleine Cafe & Patisserie – we’re working on making it a cafe that customers can not only trust for delicious cakes and pastries with a beautiful environment, but also a brand that has long-term sustainability and scalability. And ever since the first time we spoke until now, they have been very professional, understanding, and have a great attitude and work ethic. And we gel together quite well.

F: Each country has its own set of preferences when it comes to food. From your observations here, what do you think Malaysians prefer?

PB: Absolutely all the exotic fruits– and that’s also what I’ve been using back home in Melbourne. I use a lot of mango, passionfruit, and coconut. I especially like to marry them with chocolate or in tarts.

F: What are five things you love about Madeline Cafe?

PB: I love the decor – it’s laid back, very Parisian and elegant at the same time. Also it has great location, great people, and the slow-pressed juice and coffee are really amazing.

For more information, check out Pierrick Boyer’s work on his own website, Instagram, and Facebook. Follow Madeleine Cafe & Patisserie on Instagram and Facebook.
