We managed to have a chat with the Hanoi born young designer on her collection and future plan:

What’s the story behind it your collection?

As part of the criteria of this competition, I had to go with the ASEAN theme. I chose Hanoi as my focus destination. I wanted to capture the beautiful tradition in the capital city and make them trendy. Which is why I’ve created three looks that embody the traditional elements with a modern take for that unique factor.

What was the source of inspiration for it?

The collection is based on the traditional Vietnamese pottery specifically the ceramic. It’s quite different from other ceramic pieces out there. The ceramics here are rough in the pattern and surface which makes it special. So I decided to mix and match the ceramic design and trendy style for my pattern.

What are some of the struggles you’ve faced with the collection?

I mostly had to work alone throughout this competition, There were a lot having to work through different processes by myself. Besides that, in Hanoi, there’s not a lot of materials and fabrics available to choose from to produce the looks that I envision, so I had to opt to source them out from other cities. Which contributes to my money constraints.

What are your plans after this?

I’d like to continue my studies and pursue a Master’s degree to gain more knowledge perhaps something in business before I can continue to focus on designing.
