Here’s everything you need to know as we count down to the annual catwalk show.
That time of the year is here again, where we ogle leggy, lingerie-clad bombshells strutting down the runway and blowing air kisses at the camera from our TV screen or laptop (while making mental wish lists and NYE resolutions on the side!). If you’ve been keeping tabs on social media and news sites, you’d know that Victoria’s Secret has been gradually unveiling details (location, model line-up and music acts) of its highly-anticipated annual catwalk show. But if you haven’t, we’ve pieced together the low-down of the exciting announcements so far:
Mark your calendars: the show will go live on the 30th of November, but viewers at home can catch the official TV broadcast on CBS on the 5th of December. Let the countdown begin!
While it’s often held at its home base in NYC and sometimes at selected cities (like London, Cannes, LA and Miami), VS is taking its stage out of the Big Apple this time and into the City of Light at the glitzy Grand Palais, marking its first-ever show in fashion capital, Paris.
The Model Line-up
Castings for this year’s army of Angels have been concluded with a total of 54 confirmed models set to walk the runway (aka its biggest show to date). Notable newcomers include Bella Hadid and Irina Shayk, who will be joining veteran Angels like Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Lily Aldridge as well as returning favourites like Liu Wen, Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid.
PS: New mums, Candice Swanepoel and Behati Prinsloo, will be sitting this one out. :(
Who will be wearing the Fantasy Bra?
For its 21st edition, the incredible honour of wearing the 2016 Bright Night Fantasy Bra has been bestowed upon 25-year-old Californian beauty Jasmine Tookes (which is a big deal considering she joined the squad in 2015). Exclusively designed by Eddie Bargo, the mega-watt masterpiece comprising 9,000 gemstones and 450 carats is worth US$3million (RM12.8 mil) and took 700 hours to make!
As per tradition, a number of performers will be serenading the audience and this year’s guest list includes multi-Grammy Award winners Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and The Weeknd (cue the Starboy tune).
The lingerie powerhouse has curated six different themes, namely ‘The Road Ahead’, which highlights a multicultural dialogue; ‘Secret Angel’, which leans towards a black-and-white, secret-agent film reference; ‘Mountain Romance’, which centres around the playfulness and naivety of a sweet outdoorsy girl; ‘Pink Nation’, which is youthful and street style-inspired; ‘Dark Angel’, about a seductive character that’s slightly gothic yet super-sexy; and ‘Bright Night Angel’, which celebrates loving life and knowing how to have a good time.
Bonus: In the weeks leading up the show, VS has released a video series titled ‘The Making of the 2016 VS Fashion Show’. Watch all four episodes here:
