A Commerce/Law student by day, and a blogger and handcrafter by night, “K is for Kani” is a visual diary filled with feminine youthful fashion; expect lots of colour and prints!
Connie Cao from Melbourne has a lot going on for a 21 year old. To top off studying for her Bachelor of Commerce(Marketing)/Law degree, she also creates handmade floral headpieces to sell at her Etsy shop! And then, of course, there’s her blog at kisforkani.com where she documents her daily outfits, travel adventures, as well as her day-to-day happenings.
Her blog is proof that this girl is filled with unlimited creative juices. Connie is a fan of photography, interior styling and all kinds of design. Whether it’s photos of her outfits, the things she likes in her bedroom or an event she attended, we think her shots are all pretty magazine-worthy. This probably doesn’t come as a surprise since we’re guessing she gets her inspiration from reading magazines, a pastime she enjoys.
This bubbly fashion persona is definitely one to watch out for as she’s worked with the likes of Topshop, Adidas, Nasty Gal, ASOS and many others. Talk about an impressive portfolio! So we figured we’d ask her for some fashion tips and get to know the girl behind those gorgeous girly looks a little more.
f: Did you see anything you like from Autumn/Winter 2013?
Connie Cao (C): I am really loving a bright Winter coat – yellow, orange and lime green are a few favourites.
f: Any tips on how to wear it one?
C: I would suggest pairing it with a printed dress of a similar colour and try to keep accessories minimal, so there’s not too much going on. You want the coat to be the statement.
f: BEST shopping city you’ve been to would be __________?
C: London! Oxford St is amazing and never ending, it literally feels like you are walking down a kilometre and more of shops. Liberty London is also close by, Carnaby St next door has some fabulous boutiques and Covent Garden is great as well.
f: What would you NEVER be caught wearing?
C: I’m not sure, I’m pretty happy experimenting with everything! But it’s likely you’ll never see me in a head-to-toe black look. I’ve never really been a fan of the shade, I always feel comfortable with something bright and fun.
f: Three fashion must-have pieces every woman should have in her wardrobe?
C: A pair of comfortable mid-heeled boots, an investment bag that can take you through every season/event and flowers for your hair!
f: What’s on your fashion wish-list right now?
C: A sheer floaty white nightie, some petite-sized golden jewellery for my fingers (nothing ever fits my skinny fingers!) and more quirky pants options.
f: Last thing you bought?
C: Miista Shona sandals! They are rose gold and the perfect height for day-to-day wear.
f: Random, but sushi or dim sum?
C: Sushi! If you follow my Instagram account (@kisforkani) it won’t take you long to know that sushi is by far my favourite food in the world. I can’t go a week without having it. When I was about 12, I also taught myself how to make sushi rolls so I could ensure I would be able to make them myself whenever I was craving for sushi. I’m literally addicted to sushi.
f: Weirdest app on your phone?
C: I have a random app called “Shop Rights” that tell you all about consumer rights when purchasing goods. I’m either a really keen law student, or a really keen shopoholic.
f: If [insert hot male celeb’s name] were to visit your home, what would you serve him?
C: Sushi and a mocktail! Those two go surprisingly well together.
