Tommy Hilfiger has a new Global Ambassador, and it’s not who you might immediately expect.
The brand announced that Chinese actress Maggie Jiang is the new global ambassador for womenswear beginning Fall 2018. The 31-year-old actress will appear as a face of the Fall 2018 TOMMY ICONS women’s capsule collection alongside model and activist Winnie Harlow and model Hailey Baldwin as part of the brand’s global campaign, which celebrates icons of tomorrow in the worlds of fashion, art, music and entertainment.
“Maggie Jiang’s on-screen talent and cool, sophisticated off-screen style have captivated audiences for many years and I’m happy to welcome her into our global campaign,” said Tommy Hilfiger.
Maggie first made waves in 2013 with her breakout role in So Young, a film that netted her the Asian Film Award for “Best Newcomer.” Since then, she has featured in popular movies and television dramas such as A Servant of Two Masters, To Be a Better Man, and Mr. Right.
It’s inspiring to see an actress of Asian descent as the global ambassador of such a quintessentially American brand! This is especially even more significant considering the racist rumours that plagued the designer in the early 90’s. (Which turned out to be competely untrue, by the way.)
“Bringing Maggie, Winnie and Hailey together sends an inspiring message about the power of embracing individuality and diversity, values upon which I have built my brand,” Tommy Hilfiger said.
As for Maggie, she couldn’t agree more. “I’m proud to partner with a brand that has remained true to its optimistic and inclusive DNA but isn’t afraid to write its own rules,” she said.
