As we collectively become more aware of the environmental footprint we leave behind on the plant, it’s no surprise that we’d try to change every aspect of our lives to become more sustainable. From how we eat, use things, and even our beauty routines, there’s always a more environmentally friendly way to live.
But there’s one aspect you might not have thought of: fashion. The way your clothes are sourced, manufactured, packaged, and sold can have big impacts on the environment, which is why more and more brands have started looking into sustainable fashion.
Pomelo is no stranger to these admirable efforts. Their sustainable line, Purpose, first launched in 2018. Thanks to its success, the brand will launch three new sustainable Purpose collections this year and make it part of Pomelo’s permanent catalogue. Every Purpose collection is designed to address a particular sustainability issue, thus adopting a different eco-friendly practice each time.
The first of these collections launches on 3rd April 2019, and is inspired by elements of the sea! To reduce the fashion industry’s impact on natural resources, this 36-piece collection is crafted entirely of organically-sourced fabrics including linen, organic BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) cotton, vegan suede, and natural colour dyes. Prices start at RM75 per piece, and the breezy laid-back designs look like just what we need to cope with the current hot weather.

And that’s not all: From production to packaging, the Purpose line intentionally incorporates eco-friendly practices. Purpose pieces are made exclusively in factories that have undergone an independent audit by Pomelo to ensure that its products are made in humane and safer working conditions, says the brand. Customers will also receive their Purpose products in packaging that uses 60% less plastic.
