The seventh edition of H&M’s Conscious Exclusive 2018 brings together powerful femininity and sustainable fashion innovation.
The H&M Conscious Exclusive is a clothing collection like no other. Sure, it’s a collection of beautifully tailored and wearable pieces, but it’s also a remarkable statement on how the often fast-moving fashion world can be sustainable, eco-conscious and stylish.
In their past , H&M have crafted beautiful clothes from organic linen, organic cotton, organic silk, TENCEL™ and recycled plastics.
This year, they’re introducing two new materials you’d probably never have associated with fashion: recycled silver and a recycled nylon fibre called ECONYL®, made from fishnets and other nylon waste. Combined with other eco-friendly material like mulberry silk and lyocell, the result is a unique and modern collection of clothing pieces, lingerie, shoes and accessories that balance strength with softness.
Adding to the collection’s appeal is the fact that it blends fabric innovation with designs inspired by the creative home of the Swedish artists Karin and Carl Larsson.
“It is a great thrill to introduce two new sustainable materials into the collection. By creating gorgeous lace made of ECONYL® and beautiful jewellery crafted from recycled silver, we continue to stretch the boundaries of sustainable fashion,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M.
The 2018 print campaign stars British supermodel and humanitarian Christy Turlington Burns alongside Giedrė Dukauskaitė and Aamito Lagum, shot by world-renowned fashion photographer Mikael Jansson
“Ever since I learned about this collection I’ve been really impressed by what it stands for and the designs are equally appealing. Fashion and sustainability is no longer a contradiction in terms and I think re-using and recycling is an important initiative across fashion. It’s really inspiring to see such fashion-forward designs being made from recycled materials,” says Christy.
The H&M Conscious Exclusive 2018 collection launches on 19 April at H&M Lot 10 and online at hm.com.
Until then, here’s a sneak peek of some of our favourite pieces!
