Detachable Heels

Nope! You don’t have to go around walking barefooted anymore when your legs start aching. All you need is a pair of heels from Mestrae and you’re sorted!

Heels are a must-have for almost every girl. While it makes your legs look amazingly sexy, it somehow also has the ability to boost your confidence when you’re wearing your favourite pair of heels. But if you’re not used to wearing ’em, it can be quite a painful experience, especially when you start suffering from blisters, backache and leg pain. Here’s some good news: Mestrae recently introduced its new range of flats that can be converted into heels!

CEO and dounder, Christine Pamela Chandrakasan, who comes from an engineering background, got the inspiration for this brilliant idea when she attended a job interview a few years ago. “I usually don’t wear heels but I needed to look professional so I wore ’em. But after awhile, my feet started to hurt like crazy and I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be great if we had a pair of two-in-one shoes to overcome this problem? I did my research, found the right mechanics to make sure the heels could be easily fastened and removed, and even got in touch with professional shoemakers to make the idea a reality. That’s how Mestrae was born,” explains Pam.

There are 12 designs you can choose from – Amal, Cassidy, Darcy, Liza, Kelsi, Maya, Scarlett, Kira, Kaley, Miss Hepburn, Katelyn and Agnes, and each pair comes with two sets of rubber flats cover and a 3.5 inch block heel. You can also purchase the heels (2.5 inch stilettos and kitten heels) separately.

Team FEMALE had a chance to try four out of the 12 designs that and here’s how we felt about our Mestrae shoes.

"I love gladiators so I was naturally drawn to the Cassidy, which boasts a sexy snakeskin print in genuine leather. It's so easy to wear from morning to night, morphing from a comfy pair of red heels in the boardroom to solid 3.5 inch block heels that serve me well - from attending cocktails to dinner parties - without putting too much strain my feet. On weekends, I turn it into a pair of gladiator flats, though I wish it were slightly higher so that it looks a li'l more balanced from afar." – Yang Mei Ling, Editor

"I picked the Darcy because I found its satin straps extremely unique. Slipping my feet into this pair wasn't as easy as I expected it to be. It did take some time for me to get the hang of tying the straps but after I mastered it, it was a breeze. I must admit it is one of the most comfortable pairs of heels I've ever worn. To remove the heels, all I have to do is push the button on the side of the detachable heels down, and the shoes are converted into flats. Easy-peasy!" – Vasenta Selvanayagam, Deputy Features & Lifestyle Editor

"I went for the Kira, which is extremely comfy! It took me some time to get used to it, as the heels were wobbly at first. I'm still getting used to it but I definitely love using 'em as flats!" – Joan, Senior Fashion Writer

"I picked the Miss Hepburn because I love its classic, pointed-toe design. The metallic shimmer is subtle, which means I can wear it as casual flats to work or even for shopping, but it can also be dressed up as elegant heels once you pop the stilettos on. The stiletto heels are quite delicate, so you'll have to be careful with them." – Arielle Yen, Editorial Assistant
