Design that extends past the fashion runways!
The Salone del Mobile Milano – or the Milan Furniture Fair – is back for its 57th year, gracing the city from 17th to 22nd April. What started as a furniture and interior design fair is now a huge celebration of design, with a range of mind-bending exhibits (like Living Nature, an exhibit containing four natural ecosystems that recreate the four seasons of the year ), installations, and art. This year, the fair has attracted over 2,000 exhibitors, including some very familiar fashion design houses!
Here are a few names you wouldn’t associate with furniture and how they’re blowing our socks off at this year’s Salone del Mobile.
Gianni Versace launched Versace Home in the early ‘90s in an attempt to offer everyone the possibility of living in a Versace world. The Versace Home 2018 collection celebrates the family through a collection inspired by the actual Versace home in Via Gesù, with a contemporary take on its design elements and ancient Greek accents.
The VY Versace Tribute 1 sofa epitomizes the very soul of Versace: Gianni Versace’s Fall Winter 1992 Barocco in velvet print is found on the leather sofas. Worth seeing is the VG12 V for Versace, a home furnishing line characterized by the distinctive V that runs throughout all of its various pieces, and the VG12 sofa that features a replica of the legendary Medusa icon found on the doors of the Milanese Palazzo.
