Maureen Wroblewitz Is Asia’s Next Top Model

It took two months of gruelling competition and a season of tears and joy, but Asia’s Next Top Model has finally been crowned.

The top prize went to Maureen Wroblewitz of the Philippines after the final showdown between her, our very own Shikin, and  Minh Tu from Vietnam.

The 18-year-old, who is half German and half Filipino, has been modelling in the Philippines since she was 15. Despite being shorter than conventional models at only 5’6” (168cm), Maureen was initially hesitant to audition for the competition. Well, the season promised the unexpected, and it certainly delivered– especially for her!

Maureen’s confidence visibly grew in leaps and bounds over the competition, despite her insecurities and shorter stature. The same can be said for the other deserving finalists: ultra-cool Tu stunned during shoots but was criticised for being too guarded. And while Shikin had always been described as being the “perfect” top model by the judges, but that didn’t stop them from noticing that she was “missing something.” Despite all that, all three girls flourished in the competition, and each of them looked like legit supermodels by the end of the finale and we expect a bright, shiny future for all of them.

Here they are, rocking these devastatingly gorgeous and creative renditions of their traditional country garb in their final photoshoot:

Shikin Gomez, Malaysia

Minh Tu, Vietnam

Amazing, no? As always, watching the girls grow in confidence and skill has been one of the most enjoyable parts of Asia’s Next Top Model! And of course, seeing all that hard work pay off.

Congratulations Maureen! Relive her journey to the Top 3 here:

Asia’s Next Top Model Season 5 aired on StarWorld, Astro CH 711 and 722 HD in April 2017. Shikin Gomez will grace the cover of our August issue, so look forward to that!
