Here’s Why We’re Still Not Over Good Vibes Festival 2017!

Over two days, 13,000 festival-goers gathered around at the Good Vibes Festival 2017, The Ranch, Genting Highlands to witness some of the best music gigs locally and internationally. With big global names like Phoenix, Kodaline, Dua Lipa, G-Eazy, Lany, Gnash leading the festival’s headlines it was a real music fest with a variety of music genres, dance parties, and a surprise proposal – it’s a weekend to remember.

Here are some of the best highlights…

1. Dance Parties

Heart pumping beats played on with Gryffin and Lido playing electronic dance tunes, meanwhile, the Chinese-American electronic musician, Zhu wowed the crowd with his hypnotic stylistic synths dance tracks that just transports you to a whole other dimension. Gnash performed familiar chart-topping songs like Future’s ‘Mask Off’, DJ Kaled’s ‘I’m The One’ and more before ending his act with his own smashing hits ‘I hate you, I love you’. Towards the night, the British duo Snakehips cranked up the beats with covers and their own hits like ‘Don’t Leave’, ‘Cruel’ and of course ‘All My Friends’ which the crowd highly anticipated for.

2. Girls Rules!

Singing songs from her self-titled new album, Dua Lipa gave a smashing performance with her ‘dark pop’ hits as she calls it – New Rules, Hotter Than Hell, Be The One, Lost In Your Light to name a few. Shura’s front wo(man) kept the crowd going with her bittersweet voice rocking out and switching between her guitar and keyboard. She was also super cool by coming down the stage to meet her fans in the crowd slipping in a few selfies and cracking comments like ‘Sorry I just touched your boob’.

Local artist Najwa performed a chilling and hair-raising song of her version of the traditional Malay song Seri Mersing with her powerful vocals no doubt. Besides that Talitha Tan was all quirky and sweet performing her chilled out tunes including her first single (and our favourite) ‘Okay’.

3. Lany. Lany. Lany

From listening to them back in their Soundcloud days and now having to see them live is a dream come true! The LA based trio-band carried an effervescent escapism through their 80’s inspired synth-pop tunes. Our favourites were ILYSB, Super Far, and The Breakup.

4. Shirt off!

G-Eazy a.k.a Gerald gave a balanced show with hard-hitting bangers and sing along slow jams from his chart-topping hits like Me, Myself & I and Good Life. Midway during his performance, he took off his shirt and of course it made the girls crowd went wild. Someone even threw a bra on stage at one point.

5. Will You Marry Me?

Hisham Kamil proposing to Ika Aziz

The raining shower was the perfect backdrop to all of Kodaline’s song line up. They gave us the ‘feels’ with their songs from upbeat folk tune Love Like This to the melancholic All I want. Also, it was a special day for the Ika Aziz who got proposed on stage by her now fiance, Hisham Kamil with Kodaline’s lead singer Steve Garrigan welcoming and congratulating the two love birds. The band dedicated their spine-tingling song, The One for the couple – the crowd was ecstatic for the engagement and the song was so on-point! One of the lines to the song was ‘You make my heart feel like it’s summer when the rain is pouring down.’ – how perfect can you get?

6. The Smashing Finale

French Rock Band, Phoenix was the closing act for the whole Good Vibes Festival. The muddy situation and the rain didn’t dampen the spirits of their fans. They were delivering pop perfection, playing back-to-back hits such as “1901”, “Lisztomania” and “If I ever feel better”. Fans were also thrilled as lead singer, Thomas Mars decided to go in for crowd surfing. What a way to end the festival!
