If you’re wondering why you haven’t heard of her, you’ll see why.
Sam, or Syamila Nuhair Zainordi, got her start on the popular singing competition Akademi Fantasia back in 2014, where she was known as Nuha. Her powerful and husky voice impressed both judges and the public, and she finished in fourth place.
But it hasn’t always been smooth sailing since her time in the spotlight, with her career plagued by gossip, bullying, and even exploitation.
Despite the setbacks and difficulty, the 23-year-old is determined to make her mark on the music industry again. She’s spent the last two years quietly working hard to rebrand herself after her self-described “horrible ordeals”. And you can’t deny her determination– she self-funded the production and release of her new single, Kau Menjauh, a ballad inspired by the pain of an unrequited love from her youth.
Sam is certainly a talented singer. Besides her own self-written and self-composed songs, she also frequently posts covers of popular songs by artists like Yuna, Adele and Jessie J on her Youtube channel.
And with a new name, new look, and a new single, Sam Nuhair finally has her confidence back and is looking forward to a new chapter in her career. For now, her hard work has started paying off – her single was streamed over 100,000 times on music-streaming platform Raku, winning her Raku’s Best Artist award.
Get to know Sam better and watch her perform at our #MYSUPERFEMALE workshop this Saturday, 8 April 2017! See you there!
