And with Daniel Radcliffe playing the part of Prince Eric?
Yup, rumours have been circulating around the Internet that the two Harry Potter alumni members will soon be reuniting for the live adaption of The Little Mermaid. The report, according to Buzznet.com, was:
“A few hours ago it was confirmed that Emma Watson was chosen to play the role of Ariel in The Little Mermaid. But that’s not all! Prince Eric will be played by Daniel Radcliffe! This new production of Disney’s animated classic is planned for release in 2015 and will be a live action telling filmed digitally in 3D.”
There was even an accompanying photo of Emma Watson all prepped up in red Ariel hair. Seems legit enough, right?
The sad part is, it’s all not true. Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe will NOT be working together for The Little Mermaid; in fact, there’s no such film adaptation to begin with.
Come to think of it, who is Thomas Kurniawan? He’s neither a director or a producer; he’s an artist who has made several posters imagining actresses as Disney Princesses and we’ve got to admit, they’re pretty good work.
But news that such a film adaptation was in the works was originally an April Fool’s Day joke posted on a Harry Potter fansite, MuggleNet in April 2013. And the image that came with the prank definitely did not do Thomas Kurniawan justice. You can definitely tell it’s badly Photoshopped, no?
For some reason, the hoax began circulating again a couple of days ago. However, the good news is, the The Bling Ring starlet IS going to play a Disney Princess – kinda. She’s set to star as Belle in Warner Bros. and Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Beauty & The Beast, which is scheduled for production this year.
No word yet on who will be playing Beast but if you’re wondering about Daniel Radcliffe, the Harry Potter star is currently busy filming scenes for the remake of Frankenstein. He plays Igor, the hunchbacked assistant.
