8 Cover Songs You Have To Listen To

We reckon they’re even better than the original.

p031y24cMusic covers are nothing new. There are just some songs that we’ll never bring ourselves to appreciate until it is re-sung by another artist. Just like those YouTube covers we all listen to (Boyce Avenue, Megan Nicole, Sam Tsui, Tiffany Alvord, etc), it’s just natural for us to find a re-imagined song more compelling than its original version.

Which brings us to BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. Since 2006, this British radio station segment has brought in famous singers to perform one song of their own and one by another artist, usually in an acoustic format. The trick: that one song the artist chooses to sing as a cover has to be a completely different genre to what they usually perform; and this whole bit just blows our mind!

With that, here are 8 of our favourite covers from BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge:

1. Disclosure ft. Sam Smith – Hotline Bling by Drake

2. Craig David – Love Yourself by Justin Bieber

3. Little Mix – Want to Want Me by Jason Derulo and Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston

4. Charlie Puth – How Deep is Your Love by Calvin Harris ft. Disciples

5. Jess Glynne – Birthday by Katy Perry

6. Ed Sheeran – Stay With Me by Sam Smith

7. Thirty Seconds To Mars – Stay by Rihanna

8. Demi Lovato – Take Me to Church by Hozier
