Day 3: Shuen Chiu, 28, Founder of Rent A Dress
“The entire experience of starting up my own business has taught me that no one should ever stop themselves from learning and growing.” – Shuen
She studied pre-med in Sydney, Australia, but when Shuen got back, she didn’t want to pursue medicine. After working in a manufacturing company, she did her Master’s in Business in Melbourne, Australia, and when she got back, all she kept getting were invitations to her friends’ weddings.
That led to complaints among her friends and her of how tiring it was to find new dresses to wear each time someone got married. After doing some research in sustainable fashion consumption, she decided to start up her own business. As much as her friends doubted the idea, she went ahead with it. She got 40 designer dresses on sale and started to rent them out. After six months, business flourished basically by word of mouth and that’s when Shuen started networking with designers from the USA and attending trade shows so she could have more to offer her customers. Today, Shuen even has a boutique in Singapore and is happy to be able to help women feel good about themselves with dressing options.
Good news, ladies! We will be hosting a special workshop where you’d be able to meet some of our #womenofpower. For more information, click here.
