FEMALE: Tell us about what you’re doing now.

Harmini: “I used to work as a communications executive and now I run a full-time business from home. I make accessories and organic beauty products. I also enjoy doing art as well so I try to sell any arty thing I can.”

FEMALE: How fun! Was it an easy transition from having a desk job to being your own boss?

H: “Initially the difficulty I went through was to convince my parents that doing an online business was sustainable money-wise, fruitful, and beneficial to myself. My dad wasn’t very keen about it so I had to save up a lot of money and convince him that if anything were to happen, I could go back to a nine-to-five job.

There were times where I felt like giving up because being your own boss means you have to do everything yourself; there’s a lot of work to be done and everything needs to be perfect. I definitely went through some rough patches but the positives always outweighed the negatives.

FEMALE: What lessons did you learn?

H: “To work hard, to stay humble and to always, always wake up with a positive mind set cos it’s so easy to let something negative ruin your whole day.”

FEMALE: What would you have done differently?

H: “I would have done this earlier and been more assure of myself right from the start as this path has been so fulfilling.”

FEMALE: How do you feel today?

H: “I’m so incredibly happy with myself now. It’s really a blessing to constantly wake up and do something you love and also to be able to take breaks when you feel like you’re about to have a meltdown. I also meet people who tell me that they love what I do and that I inspire them – that’s a big deal! I am so very grateful.”
