Imagine living your life sans pimples. How great would that be?
Having acne is something that can turn a person’s life upside down if one lets it. Sometimes you just wish it could just disappear for good! No more itching to pop those pimples before every selfies, no more covering up post acne scars, heck, it will also mean a whole lot changes would be made to current beauty products available in the markets now.
Well, researchers at the University of California, San Diego are digging up a solution to come up with a vaccine for those pesky acnes.
As reported by Allure, this magic potion will be developed by scientists, led by Eric Huang. The idea of this is to target the bacteria that causes pimples but according to Huang it’s quite a challenge.
“Acne is caused, in part, by P. acnes bacteria that are with you, your whole life — and we couldn’t create a vaccine for the bacteria because, in some ways, P. acnes are good for you,” he stated.
“But we found an antibody to a toxic protein that P. acnes bacteria secrete on skin — the protein is associated with the inflammation that leads to acne.”
Which means the antidote will somehow remove the cause of P. acnes bacteria without damaging the actual bacteria.
The team has tested the vaccine on skin biopsies which the gathered from acne suffering patients. Their next move is to have it tested on actual trialed clinical patients.
So until then, we’ll just have to learn how to control them through exercising, eating healthy and skincare routines.
