Want the coveted pearly white teeth but you’re on a tight budget? You can try out a cheaper and natural alternative by using just one, yes only ONE simple ingredient. If you’ve got some baking soda lying around in your kitchen, you’re all set to start!

So how does it work? Sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda, acts as an abrasive cleanser that can help polish, whiten and brighten the teeth and also prevent discolouration. Now some tutorials may suggest to use lemon juice or strawberries with the baking soda but according to Bhandal Dental Practice, although it will boost the whitening effect it’s bad for the calcium in your teeth. If used too often it can cause your teeth to corrode. We don’t want that now do we?

Okay, let’s get on to the process!

What you need:

1 tsp of baking soda

1 tsp of water

A small bowl

Toothbrush

How to:

  1. The steps for this procedure is to simply mix baking soda and water together. It will create a foam paste.
  2. What you want to do is just dip your toothbrush in the solution and brush your teeth.
  3. After brushing leave the paste on, and set your timer for 2 minutes.
  4. Rinse off.

And you’re done! Do this once a week and you’ll be all smiles in no time. Just remember to make sure you don’t exceed the 2 minutes cos you don’t want to damage your teeth.

Let us know if you gave this trick a try at home, we’d love to see the result!
