For the first time ever, German hair brand Schwarzkopf Professional held a hair competition, the Shaping Authentic Beauty Congress (SABC) 2019, in the Asia Pacific region, specifically Beijing, China, to celebrate the brand and the commitment of the hairdressing industry in this part of the world. Additionally, it also serves as a platform to scout for outstanding talents in five main categories: Men’s Style, Avant Garde, Commercial Style, Colour Technician and Salon of the Year. There were nine countries that joined this esteemed competition – namely four from China, Hong Kong, Macau, India, Malaysia-Singapore and Thailand – and competition was tough. Showcasing glitz, glamour and cutting-edge hairstyles, the SABC participants certainly brought their A-game and it was a day that was filled with the utmost creativity. The event kicked-off with a showcase of 2019 Spring/Summer Essential Looks by the brand’s luminaries, Simon Ellis, International Creative Director; Richard Ashforth, Global Styling Ambassador; and Lesley Jennison, Global Colour Ambassador, who traveled all the way from Europe for the event.Throughout the two-hour finale, we were treated to presentations by creative teams from selected salons in between result announcements of the five categories of SABC. While China walked away with Men’s Style, Commercial Style and Salon of the Year category trophies, and Hong Kong Won the Avant Garde category, Malaysia proved to be worthy of being a winner with Euniece Yee from Belay Hair Salon nabbing the Color Technician category and was named the Grand Champion of the overall competition. What a feat! Apart from the prestigious title, Euniece will have the chance to attend international training, next-level development workshops, as well as the chance to stand on stage and present her creations at the next SABC Congress in Tokyo next year.
