Makeup Monday: How to Style Your Lob

Tired of your everyday flat hairdo? Take your lob up a notch with textured waves.

I recently cut my hair to a shoulder-grazing bob, better known as the lob (long bob), cos my chest-length tresses were getting too much to handle; long shampoo sessions and blow-drying was taking too much of my time hence I had to go for a slightly shorter hairstyle. Now, while I do love how easier it is to maintain, my super-straight strands make the style look incredibly flat and boring, as opposed to the wavy and voluminous ‘do that some of these Hollywood stars are sporting.

Get the look!

Realising this, I’ve taken it upon myself to start styling it exactly how the celebrities do, which is to give it more texture and waves for that laid-back glam appeal. And trust me, it’s really easy. It only takes me 15 minutes, max!

Here’s a rundown of how you can do it too!

Step 1: Massage two to three drops of hair oil or serum from mid-length to the tips to reduce frizz and protect hair from the heat of your curling iron.

Step 2: Section the top part of your hair around the crown and secure in place with bobby pins.

Step 3: Set your curling iron to 250-280 degrees and curl the remaining bottom right part of your hair, section by section. Don’t worry about being messy – this style looks best when it’s slightly imperfect.

Step 4: Repeat step 3 on the left side.

Step 5: Remove bobby pins to undo the top, and again, start curling section by section from right to left.

Step 6: Once done, run your hands through your hair to loosen the curls.

Step 7: You can leave your hair as is or slide on bobby pins one both sides of hair behind the ears to neaten up. Hold style in place with several light spritzes of hairspray. Done!
