After competing in Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 and coming in third (and bagging the Miss Body Beautiful title!), Swarna Naidu lets us in on her daily routine and the importance of fitness in her life.
Were you always a fitness enthusiast? What got you interested?
“There wasn’t a distinct moment when I got interested in fitness. I’ve always led a pretty active lifestyle and dance is one activity I love doing without the dreaded thought of it being a workout.”
Walk us through your regular routine.
“My schedule is a mess but generally, I’d start with drinking two huge glasses of water then it’s time for a quick shower and a big breakfast; formulated supplement, fruits, toast with peanut butter and poached eggs. For lunch, I’ll get something healthy like Subway and after work, I head to the gym. For dinner, I’ll have something light like tofu and vegetables while bingeing on Game of Thrones.
What are three ways to stay in shape in time before your college reunion?
“Find an activity you’re passionate about – whether it’s pilates or kickboxing – to get your heart rate up. No crash diets or working out two to three hours daily; it’s all about leading a healthy lifestyle. Eat right. Take simple steps like drinking two litres of water a day and substituting food (opting for wholewheat bread instead of white) and from time to time, reward yourself with a cheat day – eat everything you want or crave!”
Two beauty secrets you swear by
“ Baking my oily complexion! After discovering this trick of putting a generous amount of translucent powder, my makeup game has gone a few notches up. Set under the eyes, on the T-zone or if you want, your entire face and it’ll keep the skin matte all day. Next is sunscreen! Exposing the skin to UV rays can break down the skin’s elasticity. So slather on sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight.”
Five products you can’t live without
“Lip balm cos I cant stand chapped lips. Translucent powder for baking, organic facial oils to refresh my complexion, face wash and cleansing water to remove my makeup and grime build-up.
Tricks you’ve picked up from makeup artist.
“I’ve learnt to use a tinted primer to help brighten my skin. Peach tones are the best for me, especially after burning the midnight oil. Avoid using dark shades to fill in your eyebrows from front to end. Use lighter shades where it’s the thickest then a darker one towards the tail to add dimension. Trust me, your brows will look so natural!”
