At the end of every year, Google reveals what the world has searched for the most in their Year In Search summary. It’s a nice snapshot into the trends and topics that have defined the year.

So what was the most-searched for beauty phrase of the year? “Beauty blender.” Though the tool has been around for a while, its prevalence in nearly every YouTube and Instagram beauty tutorial, we’re not surprised that people are going to Google to find out more about the multipurpose makeup sponge.

And also not surprisingly, queries about false lashes, nude makeup, brows, and lip plumpers dominated the rest of the top 10 trend list. Halloween also appears to be a popular time for makeup, as users flock to Google for their Halloween makeup inspo!

As for which brands people hit up on Google search the most, there’s a distinct American slant: Ulta Beauty, an American Sephora-like cosmetics retailer, BH Cosmetics, and LipSense, took the top 3 spots, followed by familiar brands like Charlotte Tillbury, Milk Makeup, and Benefit Cosmetics.
