Have you heard of Matilda? If she seems familiar, chances are you’ve stumbled upon her Youtube channel while looking for beauty inspo!
Currently in communications and has served several industries, Matilda C has surprisingly never gotten into beauty! Despite this, her passion for skincare and makeup is evident in her clean, curated beauty videos.
Garnering fans with her soothing voice and spot-on descriptions about the products she loves, the 20-something Australian keeps her on-screen life a mystery. No one knew what she looks like… until Matilda made her first in-the-flesh debut in a Youtube collab with Katie Moser of What Kate Finds last year (and surprised her followers)!
FEMALE: What nudged you to film your first beauty Youtube video?
Matilda: I’m a keen photographer who loves editing videos from my travels. Around late 2017 when I was going through a difficult time, I decided that I needed a creative outlet to enjoy myself outside of my full-time job, so I started filming beauty videos. Nearly two years later, it’s still a hobby I love but with a far more meaningful experience than I could have ever imagined!
F: How did you come to create the aesthetics you have now for your videos?
M: I like that my channel is more about the content itself as I get to enjoy a longer creative process behind the scenes. My head was always buried in magazines as a teenager, so filming with a focus on the products feels like bringing a beauty spread from a magazine to life.
F: What is your favourite beauty tip to date and where did you get it from?
M: I’m all for the idea of balance. If I’m wearing a bold lip, I’ll keep the eye look more natural but if I’m going for a more dramatic eyeshadow, I’d keep the lip look simple. This approach which works best for my facial features might have been a tip from makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge – her channel is an incredible resource!
F: Where did you get the inspiration for your Celebrity Makeup Bag series on YouTube?
M: I have Meghan Markle to thank for that! I’ve admired her beauty style since Suits but when she and Prince Harry announced their engagement, I started to wonder which products she uses. I discovered they’re items many of us have in our makeup bag too! I was interested to keep researching stars whose style I admire to see what we have in common – it’s nice to feel inspired by someone else’s makeup choices or find out you both share a favourite.
F: Someone in the Comments section called you the Sia of beauty; mysterious, no-faced, but brilliant! What are your thoughts on that?
M: I loved that comparison! We’re both Australian so it’s very flattering and funny.
F: What do you look for in a lipstick?
M: I love sheer shades that finish off balm-y yet barely-there but if we’re talking about something more pigmented, I’d go for something creamy and comfortable.
F: From what we’ve seen, you often skip foundation in your MOTD. What do you use instead?
M: I’ve always enjoyed a very fresh look and like to let my skin show, so I often go without base makeup and just wear moisturiser and sunscreen. I love products that are very sheer and dewy like Chanel’s Water-Fresh Tint and Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint.

Blown away by the warm reaction to my Korean Makeup video last month! K-Beauty isn't 'gimmicky', 'weird' or just a 'trend' – it's an entire philosophy full of simple, sheer products to achieve a fresh, natural look. Still enjoying using these, and looking forward to showing you more products I've been testing based on your recommendations! 📝
F: Do you tune in to beauty trends? Which beauty trend ‘spoke’ to you and what does it say?
M: I try to keep up with what’s happening in the beauty industry and community but I’m known for having a fairly consistent makeup style and colour palette rather than following many trends. I tried Korean makeup for the first time this year (which is an incredible industry rather than a trend) and loved the emphasis on glowing skin and subtle pops of colour.
F: How would you describe your night-time routine in one word and why?
M: Fast! This year, I simplified my routine and have never been happier with the results. Skincare is so subjective and often comes down to trial and error but these three work so well for me! I cleanse with Avene’s Cleanance Cleanser, moisturise with Caudalie’s Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet and finish up with Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum, which happens to be my 2019 hero product.
F: If you have to pick an eye, lip and cheek makeup product each, what are the ones that would make the cut?
M: Tom Ford’s Cream Eye Colour in Golden Peach is my go-to shade for the past year. It’s hard to pick just one for cheeks, but I’ll go with the Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Formentera. For lips, the Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Colour in Ruby is always in my handbag!
F: If you can bring back a discontinued beauty product, what will you revive?
M: Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Fluid! It was the best sheer, glow-y base product I’ve ever used.

MATILDA!!!! What a pleasure it was to have this lovely lady on my channel. Not only that… I got to spend a whole day with her talking about makeup! While you might not recognize the face you most likely have heard her voice, the sweetest, most lovely human! What a pleasure it was to paint her face and introduce Matilda to some of my fave products and hear about hers. I’ve linked the vid in my bio so let me know if you check it out. And don’t forget to follow @matildaonvideo for the best makeup edits for fellow glowy gals and cream blush obsessives! #harrymakesitup #matildaonvideo
F: What are some of your favourite travel destinations?
M: New York, Paris, Vancouver, Istanbul and Melbourne but if I could only visit one for the rest of my life, it would definitely be London. It’s so rich in history, art and culture and is home to all of my favourite things.
F: Have you been to Malaysia?
M: I’ve loved my visits to Malaysia – I’ve been to Kuala Lumpur several times and visited Penang and Borneo when I was young. Certainly hoping to come back soon!
